That is silly.

I'm not really a fan of Nirvana, but Kurt wrote some really great songs. Grohl's a ding dong.

Oh come on now, Grohl is a brilliant musician, Kurt couldnt even play quitar.

FooFighters first album, every instrument was played by Grohl.

Edit: Dave did an awesome version of Darlin Nicki as well.

Grohl > Cobain

Better musician and a better song writer.

All my favorite songs by Nirvana were songs wrote by other people:

Where did you sleep last night

The Man Who Sold The World.

Playing every instrument is no great accomplishment and he's not brilliant. Frank Zappa was brilliant, Jimmy Page was brilliant. I liked and still like that first Foo Fighters record, but come on. For many reasons, Kurt Cobain will go down as an icon and a voice of his generation. Dave Grohl? No, because he writes generic, top 40 crap that sounds like the other generic, top 40 crap.

He didnt dominate any instrument, but IMO,he was an amazing lyricist AND one of the singers with more heart ever. Few had been able to express the passion he expressed in his simple two chord songs. I love Foos first albums and they still can make a couple of good songs. But I dont think grohl ever had half the talent Cobain had.

I think much of Nirvana had to do with timing. It was new and it was great. How many of us rock out to Bleach or In Utero now-a-days anyway though. What would Kurt be doing if he never ate 12 guage.

Would his songs be sitting on top of the charts.

Would he have other artists requesting him to appear on their albums?

Would he still be rocking at 40 years old.

Doubt it.

but we are talking about what he did, not about what he would have done. Theres no doubt he wouldnt be the legend he is today if he hadnt suicide. But if you look at Eddie vedder and Chris Cornell, they are almost living legends. What they are doing today is pretty bad but they are there.

Audioslave was a very good sucess.

Pearl Jams new album is pretty good as well.

And Kurt would still be reveared but in an Axl Rose kind of way. He was great at the time but he wouldnt have adapted with the fans.

All of it is about timing - Elvis, the Beatles, etc. Regardless of what Kurt would have become, his legacy was already set.

Elvis was a has-been with no songs at the top of the charts, no one was requesting and the only thing he was rocking was the buffet. So, Grohl> Elvis?

No certainly doesnt, and so was Nirvana.

I actually beleive that they are one of the greatest bands of all time, easily they influenced hordes of people and other musicians. My point is that Kurt wasnt the best member of the band and if he were still around today he would be a lost, shell of his former self, clinging to his past fame, wallowing in mediocracy, ala Axl.

Meanwhile Grohl would still continue to make great and successful music, much like he is now.

So, this makes him better?
