Marvel to Celebrate 75 Years with Primetime Special on ABC

Quote:
2014 marks Marvel’s 75th anniversary, and as part of the celebrations fans can catch an original, hour-long primetime special of the company’s full history from 1939 to present, plus an extraordinary peek into Marvel’s future!

“Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop!” will take fans new and old alike through the decades with the people who lived them in exclusive interviews, hosted by Emily VanCamp, star of ABC’s “Revenge” and Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Tune in Tuesday, November 4 at 9:00 p.m. ET on ABC to re-live 75 years of your favorite heroes in “Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop!”

The air date takes place the same week as Disney’s Big Hero 6 opens in theaters (on Nov. 7). Doest that mean we’ll see the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron during this special?

hmmm...Civil War is making news on a couple of fronts today...

Robert Downey Jr. Joins Captain America 3 For Civil War

Quote:
It's learned that Robert Downey Jr. has joined the cast of Captain America 3, reprising as Tony Stark and Iron Man.

It's also reported that Marvel Studios is adapting the 2006 Mark Millar "Civil War" Marvel Comics event.

Variety states that Robert Downey Jr. is in final negotiations to be featured in Captain America 3, which is slated to begin production this Spring for a May 6, 2016 release starring Chris Evans.

It's said the plot for Captain America 3 will pit Tony Stark/Iron Man against Captain America Steve Rogers as they feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to register their identities with the U.S. government, and also agree to act as a police force for the authorities. In the comics, Captain America was anti-registration with Iron Man pro-registration.

It's stated that due to the moral dillema of registering vs. not registering, Downey's Tony Stark will be looked at as a villain of sorts in Captain America 3, which could play out in The Avengers 4 as well.

Robert Downey Jr. has been teasing more from Iron Man, but not Iron Man 4. The report states that Marvel initially wanted Tony Stark for a smaller role in Captain America 3, but Downey Jr. wanted Stark/Iron Man to have more of a substantial role (which actually fits with the comic book storyline). Obviously, more time for RDJ means better pay for the actor, which is said to have angered billionaire Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, who is also rumored to be at odds with Fox Studios over the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties, with Perlmutter reportedly ending the use of the characters in the Marvel Comics.

Reportedly, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige was the one who saved the deal from going sour, as Feige envisioned keeping the characters around for the long haul. It seems as RDJ is so close to signing that Feige convinced Perlmutter not to order the screenwriters to write Robert Downey Jr. out of the script, which is what Perlmutter originally intended.

The report states the Civil War storyline will be used as way to drive the plots of sequels and new franchises for the Marvel Studios movies for the next seven years, which is why Feige wants Robert Downey Jr. involved.

The fallout from Civil War storyline and Tony Stark’s actions is said to be a factor leading into The Avengers 4 and beyond, with mention of assembling new characters like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange in their own movies.

Robert Downey Jr.'s deal for Captain America 3 is stated to include a hefty $40 million payout plus bonuses if the film out performs Captain America 2, which netted $714 million for Marvel.

It's worth noting that recently Warner Bros. backed their Batman Vs. Superman movie away from Captain America 3, and now with Robert Downey Jr. seemingly just about signed, we know why.

Civil War 2015 Teased By Marvel Comics

Quote:
Marvel has released a new teaser, which looks to be for a new Civil War event.

The image features Captain America, Iron Man and the Iron Spider.

No additional information was included with the image other than "Summer 2015."

Of course, Civil War was the Marvel Comics event that pitted hero vs hero written by Mark Millar from 2006.

this'll make a fine addition to my collection when it arrives sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2015

these pics were taken at the 2014 SDCC...

the Age of Ultron teaser has been leaked...really surprised to see Andy Serkis in it...he looks a lot like a character called Ulysses Klaw
Cap's broken shield and Klaw add up to one thing...Black Panther

really digging the creepy rendition of Disney's I've Got No Strings (Pinocchio)

Ive never been a fan of TPB or graphic novels because Ive always liked the value in single issues. After getting the 75th anniversary thing though, I've slowly softened up to the idea for main story lines I need to catch up on that go through several different comic titles. Just got Messiah complex brand new for 25 buck after tax. Not a big buy, but it is for me because it isn't single issues haha. Cannot wait to read this.

I've been playing catch up all the way from House of M to present x-men. I have caught up to 2011 in astonishing but forgot to read Messiah Complex, which i shall do now.

After that, I will focus on astonishing till Schism and then break into the four main titles I am currently collecting.

Amazing X-men
Uncanny X-men
Wolverine and the X-men (ofcouse)
All new X-men

i've done the same with countless storylines in order to catch up...it's a great way to revisit favourite stories as well

you might want to look into the "Essential" (Marvel) and "Showcase Presents" (DC) books...reasonably priced because they're black and white (which gives them an old school feel)...i have a book for almost every Marvel and DC character
i love reading all the really early stories

a list and example from each...

List of Showcase Presents publications

Essential Marvel

there's also Marvel Masterworks...tbh, i don't know a lot about this series but i'll provide a link for you...i've heard excellent reviews about them though...i'm pretty sure these are full color pages

Marvel Masterworks
