first official pic of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman...they've really toned down the colors...maybe the original was too American for an international audience ??

comics list and essential comics for July 30th...

CBR

Comic Vine

two of my favourite books are back this week

Black Science starts it's 2nd Arc with issue #7 and The Sandman: Overture finally returns with issue #3
both of these are excellent and i would say Sandman just might be THE best book on the market right now...i rate it right beside SAGA (ya, it's that good)

if you haven't done so already, go out and pick these up...you won't be disappointed

speaking of SAGA, the book won the top awards at the Will Eisner Comic Industry awards ceremony...Best Continuing Series, Best Writer (Brian K. Vaughan) and Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Fiona Staples)

also...

Quote:
On Saturday, July 26 at San Diego Comic-Con, Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples announced to a packed audience at the SAGA panel the November release of SAGA: BOOK ONE, the first in a series of deluxe hardcover volumes of their award-winning and beloved Image Comics series. Collecting the first three paperback volumes of SAGA, the 500-page-plus BOOK ONE will feature brand-new cover art by Staples. It will be released on November 25, 2014.

very happy to announce that i've secured one of these

the company is called XM Studios (Singapore) and they don't supply to North America (has something to do with contract issues with Marvel ?)...i contacted a guy who is going to supply me with one...the statue is going to be very expensive but there are only 800 (?) being made...and i guestimate about 250 will probably make it to North America
this thing is a freaking masterpiece...1/4 scale with phenomenal detail...the best statue i have seen in years...bar none

hoping to have him in my greedy paws by early January 2015

i think this film has been out long enough that this scene would no longer be considered a spoiler...and besides, it's just so freaking awesome that i had to post it
found out that the actual dancing was done by James Gunn (director)...

Quote:
In an interview with Yahoo! and later on Twitter, James Gunn admitted that he was the one who provided the moves for Groot’s dancing, which was originally meant to be a mid-credit sequence before the director decided that it was too amazing to risk people leaving the theater before seeing it (although they should all know better by now in a Marvel film). He said:

“Baby Groot dancing is 100 percent me… I was too embarrassed for anyone to be there, so I made everyone leave the room and I set up a camera and I videotaped myself dancing. Then I sent the video to the animators and had them animate over that. I begged them not to leak the video! Two of my closest friends came to an early screening and said ‘Hey, I recognize those moves! That’s you dancing isn’t it?!’”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydRk71atXKI

seriously...if you haven't seen this yet then go...go now

let me just say that it was A LOT ...but the really hard part to swallow is the fact that shipping will be around $250...the piece itself is solid (unlike most other statues)...i'm pretty sure it weighs close to 60 lbs
very few of the 800 will make it across the pond when it's initially released (maybe 200-250 ?) so the secondary market value is going to go thru the roof on this...i'll guess around $2500-2900 on Evilbay by this time next year
but i'll never sell it...it's the best statue i've seen in the last 8-10 years

Action Comics #1 Sells for $3.2 Million

Quote:
Yesterday, the most pristine copy of Action Comics #1 (the first appearance of Superman) ever graded by the CGC became the most valuable comic book of all time on eBay as the issue sold for a grand total of $3,207,852.00. Graded 9.0, and described as being “a 1938 museum piece with PERFECT WHITE pristine pages,” the comic was put up by Pristine Comics, who will be donating 1% of the total ($32,078.52) to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

First published in 1938, the Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster-created comic marked the first appearance of the “Man of Steel,” established his secret identity of Clark Kent and introduced his future love interest Lois Lane. The previous most valuable edition of the issue was sold in 2011 for $2.16 million, which coincidentally was owned by Nicolas Cage, who almost played Superman in Tim Burton’s infamous Superman Lives.

Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Now Over $500 Million

Quote:
If you would have asked me 6 years ago or so when I started Cosmic Book News to help promote the Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova comic books if there would ever be a movie based on either property, I would have probably said "more than likely not."
And if you would have asked me then if Guardians of the Galaxy could ever be the biggest movie of the Summer or the fact that it could pass $500 million worldwide, I would have thought your brain was being altered by the Mind Gem.
But that is the latest for Marvel Studios and James Gunn as Guardians of the Galaxy is presently at about $500.5 million.
The film has already passed Captain America 2 and Thor 2 domestically as well as the "heavyweights": Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days Of Future Past and Transformers: Age Of Extinction.
Currently, Guardians has a $255.2 million gross in the U.S., with another $245.3 million internationally.

Marvel has slated the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel for a July 28, 2017 release, which will see James Gunn returning to both write and direct.

Hey Shadowfax, how do you keep up with all the comics you have? Is there an app or something you use to organize it?
