seems like a really odd choice...

Charlie Cox Cast As Daredevil For Marvel Netflix Series

Quote:
British actor Charlie Cox will play the Man Without Fear in the Marvel Netflix Daredevil series.

Sources first confirmed the news to Variety.

Charlie Cox is known for Boardwalk Empire and has a role in the upcoming Dracula Untold movie. Cox also starred in the 2007 Stardust movie with Claire Danes and Henry Cavill.

The Netflix Daredevil series looks to film this Summer in NYC and will be 13 episodes long joining Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage with the four series culminating in an Avengers-like event mini-series titled The Defenders.

Marvel also has Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. returning this Fall to ABC for a second season with the newly announced Agent Carter acting as a fill-in and go-between during S.H.I.E.L.D.'s mid-season break.

Update: Marvel officially announced the news:

Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed actor Charlie Cox has joined "Marvel's Daredevil," an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Best known for his acclaimed work in "Boardwalk Empire" and "Stardust," Cox will play Matt Murdock, the lead role in this all-new Marvel Television series. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City.

Marvel's first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight ("Spartacus," "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer," "Angel") and Drew Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods," "Lost," "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer," in addition to writing the first two episodes of "Marvel's Daredevil), along with Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb ("Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Smallville," "Heroes").

"Marvel's Daredevil" is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios.

interesting...

Roland Emmerich to Direct Stargate Reboot!

Quote:
On the heels of yesterday's update on the status of director Roland Emmerich's much-anticipated Independence Day sequel comes some exciting news about another one of Emmerich's 1990s sci-fi hits. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, together with Emmerich and Dean Devlin, are partnering to launch a new feature film trilogy that reimagines 1994's Stargate. The announcement was made today by Gary Barber, MGM’s Chairman and CEO. Emmerich, who directed and co-wrote the original film with Devlin, is confirmed to direct and Devlin will produce.

Word of a reboot of the 1994 film first broke last year when Emmerich said that he and creative partner Dean Devlin approached MGM about building a reboot trilogy. Emmerich co-wrote and directed the original 1994 film, which starred Kurt Russell, James Spader, Jaye Davidson and Alexis Cruz.

At the time of its release, Stargate grossed nearly $200 million at the global box office. The franchise has since spawned three live-action television spin-offs, one animated series and two direct-to-DVD feature films.

Barber said, “We couldn’t be more excited to once again partner with Roland and Dean, the world-class creators of the original 'Stargate,' to bring their reinvigorated vision of this wildly popular property to audiences of multiple generations.” He added, “'Stargate' is one of the biggest titles in MGM’s vast library, and we look forward to adding this great franchise to our slate.”

“The 'Stargate' universe is one that we missed terribly, and we cannot wait to get going on imagining new adventures and situations for the trilogy. This story is very close to our hearts, and getting the chance to revisit this world is in many ways like a long lost child that has found its way back home,” said Emmerich and Devlin.

MGM will be running production on Stargate, with Jonathan Glickman, President, Motion Picture Group overseeing the project on behalf of MGM and Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, overseeing for Warner Bros. Pictures. Worldwide distribution will be handled by Warner Bros. Pictures, with select international territories to be handled by MGM.

Glickman said, “For us at MGM, there was no version of us further developing the 'Stargate' franchise without Roland and Dean at the creative helm. This is their baby, and we cannot wait to bring their reenergized universe to the legions of fans around the world.”

Silverman said, “'Stargate' created an expansive cinematic universe that has engaged fans for two decades.” He added, “Under the guidance of Roland and Dean, these new films will build upon the creativity and popularity of the first film, while delivering an original film-going experience for fans and those new to the franchise.”

very exciting news for geeks around the world this morning...Thanos has finally been cast by Marvel...and it's an excellent choice imho

Josh Brolin to Play Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy

Quote:
Although we saw Thanos at the end of Marvel's The Avengers, we haven't seen him since and he hasn't been featured in the two full trailers for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Gunn has previously revealed that the August 1 release is connected to Thanos, however.

Now, Latino-Review is reporting that the villain will be voiced by Josh Brolin in Guardians of the Galaxy. They say:

"An article on James Gunn's post-production process reported a scene with Thanos on a rocket throne in Act 3, which suggests an appearance long enough that someone is going to have to voice the Mad Titan, someone that could take the part into Avengers 3 as a major villain.

That meant Marvel was looking for an actor of some caliber, someone that could give a performance to a very complex, but very purple-skinned alien villain.

Our sources tell us that person is JOSH BROLIN!!

He'll be providing the voice of Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and with a name and reputation like that, it's likely he'll join James Spader and Tom Hiddleston as actors who have tried to kill The Avengers."

Joss Whedon has hinted before that we wouldn't be seeing Thanos take on The Avengers until Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

"Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful; he is not someone you can just trot out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him threading through the universe and to save the big finale for the big finale. He is definitely a part of what I have got going on. The thing about The Avengers is that they are very powerful but not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment."
