a really nice story...thought i'd post it here because of the comic connection

Batkid Saves San Francisco!

Quote:
As promised, the San Francisco chapter of The Make-A-Wish Foundation turned the City by the Bay into Gotham for a day, fulfilling the wish of five-year-old Miles Scott. You may recall Miles as the kid who, after kicking Leukemia’s ass, wanted nothing more than to spend a day as his favorite hero, Batman. Today, Miles got his wish and pretty much the entire city of San Francisco got in on the fun.

More than 12,000 volunteers showed up to cheer Miles on as he cruised around the city in a borrowed Lamborghini made up to look like the Batmobile. Batkid’s adventure saw him answer a call from the police commissioner, confront the Riddler and the Penguin, and rescue the San Francisco Giants mascot, Lou Seal, before being awarded the key to the city by the mayor.

As if that wasn’t enough, the United States Attorney’s office and the FBI joined in, issuing stern indictments for the crimes attributed to the two supervillians. Even President Obama took a moment to record a Vine congratulating Batkid on a job well done.

Since the plan was announced a few weeks ago, Miles, who’s been fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia since he was 20 months old, has received an unprecedented outpouring of support from around the globe. The event garnered so much attention that, as of this writing, the Make-A-Wish website has been shut down by an overload of visitors.

Question for anyone who has started to read or has read this series: Batman - Death of the Family

Just curious if it's worth the investment in time. Note - I am a huge, huge, huge fan of the Joker, this cannot be stressed enough.

I'll have to buy that too at some point in time. Preferably X-Mas but probably months later as I'm not in the best financial situation at the moment.

Best Comic Book Covers of the Week: 11/29/13

Awesome Art Picks

as most here know, i don't usually stray too far from superhero comics...but i ran across a review this week that intrigued me...read a few more reviews from different sites and they all were saying the same thing...5/5 stars

Black Science #1 (Image Comics) was excellent...i was hooked instantly
here's 1 review...

Quote:
Rick Remender slips into horror like a custom-made suit and his return to the genre marks one of the best debuts of the year. “Black Science” #1 is evocative of the height of the EC era, and Matteo Scalera and Dean White provide art that makes fear a beautiful experience.

Remender throws the reader and Grant McKay into the deep end of this story from the first page, catching them up through McKay’s terrified, regretful inner monologue. Through the Anarchist League of Scientists, McKay has broken the barriers between dimensions and discovers that the rules of the universe were there for our own protection. The cocksure lead of most Remender tales is gone here, replaced by a man whose attitude has cost him everything. McKay hasn’t just stranded himself in other dimensions, he’s done it to his family as well -- "Lost In Space" led by James Cameron. Most of the writing here is internal, allowing us to feel as caught up and confused as McKay. His regrets and fear feel real and relatable. He doesn’t regret using the wrong sammflange or quark spark; he hates that he ignored his family to the point that he may have cost them their lives. He anguishes over smoking too much pot, over cheating on his wife, over not being in better shape. This is a man who has been forced to face the price of his hubris while trying to not die at the hands of warring factions of warrior-frog proles and electro-toad imperialists. The dialogue is crisp and distinct; we get McKay’s voice immediately.

Scalera’s designs are disturbing and beautiful. It’s obvious that this series will involve a lot of fantastical elements and if what is on display here is evocative of what is to come then I want to hug his brain. The action crackles and pops, all high octane and speed. McKay is lithe, angular; we can feel the sweat as he speeds through the world, see the desperation in both his face and body language as he does anything to get back to his children. The monsters are horrifying and beautiful, full of raw power and control. As the story takes a left turn at the end, the new world where we find ourselves has a rich tapestry or war machines and sharp, steel terror.

All of this work would be moot if the color work were flat, and it’s here that “Black Science” jumps up a level. Dean White fills the art with a rich palate of color and dimension that makes this world even scarier as the depth makes it feel tangible and real. This is next level work, Eisner Award nomination material, beyond his stellar run on “Uncanny X-Force.” Everything is bathed in darkness and cool electric hues. He creates a whole new palate after the ALoS jump to a new world, with warmer colors evocative of wartime terror. Scalera and White an art team that work together like hand in glove. Even the lettering of McKay’s monologues assist in showing the fractured, jagged feel of a mind racing to survive.

Whatever dark wizards Remender made a deal with to create this story are certainly getting their money’s worth. “Black Science” #1 is the start of a terrifying new thrill ride that I will be reading between my fingers, hands over my eyes.
do yourself a favour and pick this up...you won't regret it

Gal Gadot cast as Wonder Woman for blockbuster Batman and Superman film

Quote:

Wonder Woman is finally coming to the big screen.

Israel-born actress Gal Gadot has been cast as Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.’ superhero team-up film with Batman and Superman, the studio announced Wednesday. Already starring in the currently untitled film are Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman.

Created in the 1940s and outfitted in patriotic colours, Wonder Woman was most famously played by Lynda Carter in the 1970s “Wonder Woman” television series. But despite the character’s considerable cultural impact, Wonder Woman hasn’t previously made it into the movies.

Wonder Woman’s inclusion in the film brings it closer to a full gathering of DC Comics’ Justice League, which also features the Flash, Aquaman and others. Warner Bros. hasn’t announced any further castings in the film, except that it will return many of the stars of Zac Snyder’s Superman reboot “Man of Steel.”

Gadot is a former model who competed for Israel in the 2004 Miss Universe pageant. She has starred in several of the “Fast & Furious” films, including “Fast & Furious 6,” released earlier this year.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favourite in the DC Universe,” director Zac Snyder said in a statement. “Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role.”

A sequel to Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” the Batman-Superman film is set to begin production early next year, and to be released in July 2015.

some interesting news spread across the web yesterday...X-Men fans are going to be very pleased

X-Men: Apocalypse Set for May 27, 2016

Quote:
In a surprise move, Bryan Singer today revealed the title of the next chapter of 20th Century Fox's popular X-Men franchise. May 27, 2016 will see the release of X-Men: Apocalypse!

Apocalypse, created by Louise and Walter Simonson, made his debut in X-Factor #6. The world's first mutant, En Sabah Nur was born in Egypt around 3,000 BC and used advanced technology to make himself an eternal conquerer, believing whole heartedly in survival of the fittest.

The character's most popular storyline, "The Age of Apocalypse," ran in the X-Men books beginning in 1995. Set in a parallel reality formed by interference to the timeline, "The Age of Apocalypse" saw Professor Charles Xavier murdered before he could form the X-Men. Instead, a very different take on the team began with Magneto leading them through a post-apocalyptic America ruled by mutants.

Since next summer's X-Men: Days of Future Past involves a time travel storyline, it's likely that a filmic take on "The Age of Apocalypse" could spin out of the new film's ending. It's certainly something that 20th Century Fox has considered as ComingSoon.net has learned that domains like AgeofApocalypsemovie.com have been registered by the studio for years. What's more, Singer's new film is set to introduce key "Age of Apocalypse" characters like Bishop (Omar Sy) and Blink (Bingbing Fan).

At this stage, however, all that's confirmed is the May 27, 2016 release date, which puts X-Men: Apocalypse up against Walt Disney Pictures' Alice in Wonderland 2.

X-Men: Days of Future Past, meanwhile, hits the big screen May 23, 2014.
imho, it's one of the best X-Men stories ever written...and Apoc is just BADASS...i rate him right up there with Thanos as one of Marvel's elite villains

here's a breakdown of the storyline for anyone who is not familiar with it

Age of Apocalypse
