actually laughed out loud when i read this...

Venezuelan president blames Spider-Man for nation’s violence

Quote:
Costumed superheroes have developed a bit of a bad reputation over the past several months, and not without cause: There was the Spider-Man robbery on Hollywood Boulevard, the She-Hulk assault in York, England, the brawl between Spider-Man and two Captain Americas on Hollywood Boulevard, the Iron Man bank robbery in Florida, and, just this morning, the Spider-Man store robbery in Pittsburgh.

OK, so it’s primarily Spider-Man causing the problems. But can we blame the wall-crawler for the horrible violence plaguing an entire country? Let’s ask Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whose nation saw 16,000 murders in 2012, and another 3,400 in the first quarter of this year.

In a new interview with the Bolivian newspaper La Opinión, Maduro said there’s a correlation between youth violence and the idolization of superheroes — it contributes to a “factory of anti-values,” apparently — a connection he made while he and his wife were watching Spider-Man 3.

“This kid, at 14 years old, carries a 9mm with a mind filled by thousands of hours of shows where people are killed,” he said. “I start to think how many thousands of hours of violence that kid will have consumed, in the end, stimulated by consumerism and violence when he grabs a 9 mm and goes to kill. [...] That’s the trouble, from the beginning until the end there are more and more dead,” he said. “And that’s one of the series small children love most … because it’s attractive, it’s from comics that are attractive, the figure, the colors and movements … so much so that we finished watching it at four in the morning.”

Before J. Jonah Jameson orders that special edition of the Daily Bugle, it’s worth pointing out that Maduro has also claimed the spirit of his late predecessor Hugo Chávez spoke to him through a little bird to say he’s doing a fine job running the country.

Gordon-Focused "Gotham" Series Headed to Fox

Quote:
"Gotham," a new drama based on the DC Comics world of Batman, has received a series commitment from Fox, as first reported by Deadline.

Bruno Heller, creator of "The Mentalist" and co-creator of "Rome," is set to write and executive produce. The series will depict the early stories of both Commissioner James Gordon and Gotham City's villains, though Deadline notes that Batman will not be a part of the series. "Gotham" will focus on Gordon as a detective in the Gotham City Police Department, before the character met Batman.

The news is notable both for the series commitment -- which Variety calls "not quite an on-air order but a hefty down payment" -- and the fact that the series is at Fox rather than The CW, which airs "Arrow" and has "The Flash" in development as a possible spinoff. The CW is 50 percent owned by DC parent company Time Warner. Deadline called "Gotham" one of the "two hottest drama projects this season," along with CBS sci-fi series "Extant."

One of DC's oldest and most recognizable characters, James Gordon was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, and first appeared in 1939's "Detective Comics" #27; also the first appearance of Batman. Gordon has been depicted multiple times in previous live-action projects, most recently by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy.

Heard about the Gordon show-interesting. I enjoyed Agents of Shield. I absolutely love Skye (Chloe Bennet) and to a lesser degree Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). Very angry with Marvel regarding what they did to their website. They used to have a lot of animated shows available to watch online on their website for free and now they practically have none.

a lot of tv announcements lately ...imho, this one could be VERY interesting

DC Comics' Constantine Heads to NBC

Quote:
Following news earlier this week that Fox has a Batman-inspired "Gotham" television series in the works comes word, via The Hollywood Reporter, that DC Comics' John Constantine is also headed to the small screen. David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel) and Daniel Cerone ("The Mentalist") will provide the script for an NBC pilot, "Constantine."

Created by Alan Moore, John Constantine, a roguish magician/detective/conman, first appeared during the author's run on "Swamp Thing" in 1985, receiving his own series, "Hellblazer," under DC's Vertigo imprint in 1988. That book ran for 300 issues before it was relaunched in DC's "New 52" continuity as "Constantine" with a younger take on the antihero. It appears that the new series will serve as the primary basis for the pilot.

The Constantine character was also brought to the big screen with a 2005 film directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Keanu Reeves. Earlier this year, Guillermo del Toro confirmed that he was working on a script based on DC's "Justice League Dark," (tentatively titled Dark Universe) that would include John Constantine as a character. As to how that film winds up being affected by these new television plans remains to be seen.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Olson is apparently cast to play Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch. Elizabeth Olsen revealed as latest Avengers cast addition, according to Samuel L. Jackson | National Post I'm always curious as to who owns Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver - Fox or Marvel/Disney. I suppose this means that they're owned by Marvel/Disney but at the same time they are Magneto's kids.

Happy to say there is one exception though and that is the main book/storyline called Forever Evil
Issue #1 was really well done imho...and it doesn't hurt to have 2 of the best in the business doing the writing and art (Geoff Johns and David Finch)

There's just something very cool/unique in having all the DC badasses in one book
Recommend picking this up

just read issue #2 and i gotta say this is building up to be an excellent event...i can't wait to see what happens in next month's issue

if you haven't already, i highly recommend checking out this storyline
