another Great Page...The Tomb of Dracula #10

Quote:
In 1971, the Comics Code was revised after more than 15 years of existence. Formed in 1954 in an effort to keep the federal government off of the comics industry’s back, the Code existed to keep everything nice and G-rated. Nothing remotely questionable was to be found in the pages of the stories kids could buy at the local drug store. Among those ideas deemed questionable was most things found in horror comics. However, the 1971 revision allowed “classic” versions of monsters like Frankenstein, the Wolfman, and Dracula to once again grace mainstream comics. Wasting little time, Marvel debuted a new title in 1972 named The Tomb of Dracula.

The series focused on Dracula, who returned to undead life in the very first issue. But it was in issue ten that a prominent vampire hunter made his first debut. Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, the writer and artist for most of Tomb of Dracula‘s run, Blade appeared in an effort to hunt down Dracula and upend the master vampire’s plans. Though he looked very much of his time, afro and all, Blade would prove himself as a force to be reckoned with and someone that no vampire in the Marvel universe could ever take lightly.

Superman/Batman Movie to Shoot in Toronto?

link

Quote:
VanCityBuzz is reporting a rumor that the upcoming Superman/Batman movie, which is an intended follow-up to Man of Steel, will likely move locations for production from Vancouver to Toronto. Production on the project isn't expected to begin until some time next year with a summer 2015 release being planned. Though not official, it's said that the tax credits the production could receive were simply more beneficial in Toronto. Check back here for confirmation on the production's location soon.

Plot details are very few about the upcoming film, but io9 spoke with star Henry Cavill about one specific thing: Lois Lane knowing Clark's secret.

"I think it's essential," he said. "Because if we're trying to base it in reality, there's no way that Lois has these direct interactions with Superman, and then doesn't recognize Clark sitting next to her in the office. If she falls in love with Superman, and she's ignoring a guy who looks just like Superman, behaves just like him, and has the same kind of mannerisms and behavior, then what does that say about Lois? I like this relationship. She saves him just as much as he saves her."

The new Batman is yet to be cast for the film, but Goyer is currently co-writing the story with director Zack Snyder. Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will return.

first look at a Sentinel for X-Men: Days of Future Past

Quote:
In recent days following the Fox's Comic-Con International presentation for "X-Men: Days of Future Past," it's become increasingly apparent that the mutant-hunting Sentinel robots will play a large role in director Bryan Singer's sequel to "X-Men: First Class." While Singer revealed a photo of Mystique's leg on Twitter yesterday, it seems he's already getting back into the swing of regular photo updates on the social media network, bringing fans the first detailed look at the Sentinels yet.

one of my most anticipated pieces of 2013 showed up today (after a number of delays)...happy to say he was worth the wait
one of the best paint apps i've ever seen on a 1/4 scale statue...the use of mixed media on this is excellent as well
fantastic detail on the weapons but the rubber chicken (with the stick of dynamite shoved up it's ass) truly sets this piece apart...perfect representation of Wade's psychotic side

a few pics of Deadpool...

over the last few years i've become pretty jaded when it comes to Marvel "events"...tbh, the last couple have been a letdown
so it was with great trepidation that i decided to purchase/download Infinity#1 (6 part series)
the main reason why i started reading it is because of Jonathan Hickman...who imho, is one of the top 3 writers in comics today (his recent run on Avengers has been awesome)...the incredible rotation of artists (Jim Cheung, Jerome Opeña, and Dustin Weaver ) was the icing on the cake

the story is on a massive scale...far too much for me to explain so i'll just copy and paste from Wiki instead

Quote:
The event concerns issues built up over multiple Marvel comic books a part of the Marvel NOW initiative, foremost of which is Hickman's own Avengers and New Avengers series. This backdrop is represented on three fronts, the first of which is the threat that an ancient race of aliens known as the Builders pose to the universe that was detailed in Hickman's Avengers series. The second is the mysterious ailments that are plaguing the universe with Earth at the center, which were hinted at and explored in books such as Hickman's New Avengers and Nova. The third is the political ramifications these events have on Earth in the galactic community, which are detailed in Guardians of the Galaxy.

The story itself involves Thanos attacking Earth while the Avengers are in space uniting the universe against the Builders, with the events of Age of Ultron acting as a catalyst for the rest of the universe to formally target Earth. The event crosses over with Hickman's Avengers and New Avengers books, with two different perspectives being told in each book. Avengers follow the Avengers while they are in space recruiting various alien races to fight against the Builders with Nova and the Guardians of the Galaxy while New Avengers details Thanos' attack on Earth and the heroes left behind to deal with him.[1] The various tie-ins tell Thanos's attack from the perspective of various Marvel characters.
The aftermath of the event will lead directly into the Inhumanity storyline, where the Terrigen Mist has been released throughout humanity.
if anyone is interested in getting a "taste" of what this about, you can download the prologue issue for free at Comixology

Infinity #1 is a little pricey at $4.99, but well worth it imho (142 pages)

really looking forward to seeing what Hickman has planned over the next 5 issues

now it's official...

Ben Affleck Cast as Batman in Man of Steel Sequel

Quote:
It's official! Ben Affleck has been cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Zack Snyder's still untitled Superman/Batman sequel to this past summer's Man of Steel. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. The studio has slated the film to open worldwide on July 17, 2015.

Last month’s surprise announcement of the new movie featuring both Superman and Batman created a wave of excitement and immediately fueled discussion and debate—among fans as well as in the media—about who would put on the cape and cowl of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

Snyder successfully re-imagined the origin of Clark Kent/Superman in the worldwide blockbuster Man of Steel, which has earned more than $650 million worldwide to date, and climbing. The director will now create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together.

Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The film will also reunite Man of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

In the announcement, Silverman stated, "We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character."

Snyder also expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."

Kroll added, "We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.' remarkable legacy with the character of Batman. He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes."

Affleck recently starred in the Academy Award-winning Best Picture Argo, which he also directed and produced, earning acclaim and a BAFTA Award nomination for his performance in the film, as well as a number of directing honors.

The new film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

Production is expected to begin in 2014.

first look at Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy (played by Michael Rooker)...yes, the same Michael Rooker who played Merle in the Walking Dead

he even makes blue look badass
hoping they CGI the mohawk a darker red...other than that, he looks pretty close to the comic book character

another Great Page...Preacher #66

Quote:
With Preacher, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon achieved a singular story about religion, betrayal, love, rage, hate, war, redemption, and just about everything else the pair could fit into 66 issues. With that story over and our hero Jesse Custer riding off with the love of his life, Jesse was asked what he wanted to be if not a preacher. His answer, while astride a horse who was slowly walking off into the west, was a lovely ending to their story.

Drawn by Steve Dillon, this two-page spread really comes alive due to the wonderful color work of Pamela Rambo. The sunset appears to be a living thing, drawn straight from life. Its delicate blend of blues, pinks, and yellows captures the gorgeous sunsets that can be found in the American West. It’s a perfect note on which to end the story of Jesse Custer and it leaves a warm memory of the time readers spent with him, Tulip, and Cassidy. Would that all characters be allowed to leave on this sort of high note.
