picked up the new Superman Unchained #1 yesterday because i had heard good things about it...happy to announce that all the hype was accurate...this is a great comic
it's been a long time since i've committed to a Superman storyline cause (quite frankly) everything for the last 2 years or so has sucked...and i do mean REALLY sucked
"Unchained" is different though...mainly because it's being written by Scott Snyder...yup, the same guy who's writing Batman (which imho is the best comic on the market today)...doesn't hurt to have Jim Lee doing the pencils either

highly recommend picking this series up

another Great Page...Suicide Squad #10

Quote:
When the Suicide Squad began, it was a secret operation. Figuring that the United States people wouldn’t be thrilled if they learned the government was giving super villains pardons if they went on top secret missions, the existence of the Squad was denied. Batman, however, got wind of it. In a bid to investigate both Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad, Batman went undercover as a prisoner in Belle Reve prison, the Squad’s headquarters. From there, he broke out of his cell and went exploring.

Written by John Ostrander, Suicide Squad was a deft balancing of politics, superheroes, and adventure comics. Luke McDonnell brought a down-to-earth style to his pencils that helped ground the adventures of characters whose gimmicks included boomerangs, a faux tiger head, and black energy portals. However, when given the opportunity to draw Batman at his most intimidating, he knocked it out of the park. The Batman caught on the security camera here is more of a black mass than a real man. It’s Batman at his most awe-inspiring that Ostrander and McDonnell are presenting here. Turning the lights on Batman when he least expects it proves to only make him angrier and no less of a force of nature.

another Great Page...Uncanny X-Men #142

Quote:
Readers were introduced to the distant future of 2013 in the Days of Future Past storyline in Uncanny X-Men. A possible future for the Marvel Universe was presented, one in which anti-mutant hysteria reached its height in the 1980s and stayed there for years. Sentinels were put into mass production and began killing mutants at an alarming rate. In the second part of this two-part tale, a future Wolverine and Colossus attempted to infiltrate the Sentinel stronghold. Just as Wolverine set up a killing blow, a Sentinel spotted him and used its powerful blast attack to kill the aging hero. Wolverine died instantly.

Modern fans of Wolverine may be surprised to see the seemingly immortal hero dispatched so easily. Early in Wolverine’s creation, his healing factor wasn’t up to its current level. It was conceivable that a direct blast from a powerful Sentinel could kill him even if later stories showed that he could somehow live through an atom bomb attack. Here, Chris Claremont and John Byrne give one possible outcome for the fan favorite character. We’ll have to wait and see if this page is referenced in next year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past film.

Just finished Astro City #2 and i'm happy to say that Busiek and Anderson have turned in another near perfect comic book...it's masterful
Issue 2 deals with a behind the scenes look at the planet's superteam (Honor Guard)...it introduces one of the people charged with screening the info that Samaritan and his superhero teammates deal with
An incredible human story in the middle of a superhero world

If you haven't picked up issue 1 and 2, do so now...it's what all comics should be...it has quickly become one of my favourites...in fact i rate it right beside Saga...ya, it's that good

Huh. Cool. One of my old buddies from Jr. High has his cover art featured right now on the front page of Marvel.com. His name's Kalman Andrasofsky. Dude is living his dream. Pretty cool to see.
