one of the greatest runs in comic book history comes to a close tomorrow...hard to believe it's been nine years

Quote:
DC Comics writer and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns has spent the past fourteen years of his career revitalizing Silver and Golden Age characters such as Aquaman, Flash, the JSA and Legion Of Superheroes. But of all the heroes the writer has spent time with, there is only one who has defined Johns as much as Johns has defined him: Hal Jordan, the Silver Age Green Lantern and star of Johns' nine-year ongoing "Green Lantern" series.

In 2005, Johns brought Jordan back from the dead in the miniseries "Green Lantern: Rebirth," which led to a new "Green Lantern" series that returned the Silver Age protagonist to comics continuity, while expanding the Green Lantern universe exponentially. In critically and fan-acclaimed storylines like "Sinestro Corps War" and "Blackest Night," Johns resurrected old villains and created new ones, along the way introducing the idea of an emotional color spectrum of various Lantern Corps.

With Johns' work remaining largely intact after the New 52 relaunch, the Lantern quadrant of the DCU grew again with the addition of spinoff titles "Red Lanterns" and "Green Lantern: New Guardians" while the main book refocused on the relationship between Hal and Sinestro, the longtime yellow power ring-wielding villain newly reinvested as a Green Lantern.

After almost a decade at the helm of the entire Lantern universe Johns announced he would be leaving "Green Lantern" for good, handing the comic over to writer Robert Venditti.
for anyone looking for an investment somewhere down the road, this would be it...highly recommend picking up this final edition because it will definitely increase in value

another Great Moment in comics history...G.I. Joe: Order of Battle #2 and #3

Quote:
Rocky Balboa, undisputed heavyweight boxing champion, was a member of G. I. Joe for one month in 1986 before someone realized that the rights to use his name weren’t cleared. A giant retraction / harshly direct retcon was published the following month. Rocky’s time with the Joes was brief and, officially, nonexistent.

#3

another Great Page...The Batman Adventures #9

Quote:
With the release of the blockbuster television show Batman: The Animated Series, DC launched a new ongoing title set in the universe developed by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and so many others. Titled The Batman Adventures, it hung close to the show’s character designs, setting, and continuity. The first six issues were very enjoyable and were fun, all-ages Batman stories. Then, Mike Parobeck became the series’ regular penciller at issue seven and the series got even better.

Known for clean, fluid lines and expressive character work, Parobeck took to the animated Batman universe with gusto. Inker Rick Burchett embellished Parobeck’s pencils beautifully and let the artwork shine. By the time the ninth issue in the series was released, the duo’s work was humming right along. In an issue written by Kelley Puckett, who wrote many of the early animated Batman comics, Batman broke into the house of Rupert Thorne, a well-known Gotham City gangster. As Batman picked away at the henchmen in and around the home, this page of him stumbling across a trio of gunmen in the kitchen shines. Batman takes out the goons silently, one-by-one, and the Dark Knight Detective looks as though he’s having fun. The humor of the piece remains strong as the thugs barely make Batman work up a sweat. The final panel, with its speed lined fist and enjoyable topper to the hoodlum’s story, remains a favorite.

DC has just announced Villain Month for Sept...really digging the idea of the 3D Motion covers...gonna have to buy a shitload of these #1s...they'll be worth a lot down the road

DC Comics Announces Villains Month in September

Quote:
September 2011 held the launch of the New 52 reboot, September 2012 dove back in time with Zero Month, and now September 2013 will be the home of DC Comics' Villains Month. Every New 52 title will be taken over by a rogue for a done-in-one tale and have ".1" added to its numbering, acting as a sort of aside from the main series.

"September has always been a big month for us and we look for an opportunity every year in September to do something big that really redefines the line and invites anyone who hasn’t been following comics to step right in," DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee said in a press release. "We launched the New 52 with all-new continuity and new costumes, Zero Month was all about origins of our heroes, and now the villains are taking over. One of the strengths of the DC Universe has been the strength of the rogues gallery. Often times they’re as famous – if not more infamous – than our heroes."

All of the Villains Month covers will feature a "3D motion image" on the front and back covers as well.

“It’s called a 3D motion cover and it’s essentially artwork that’s been separated onto different layers, so when you hold the cover, which is a premium stock cover, and you slightly rotate the comic book left or right or up and down, the images move a bit,” Lee added.

"It’s an incredible 3D effect that shows depth of field on the covers," said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio in the same release. "It’s the full cover stock, so it’s not anything that’s been glued on. More importantly, it’s actually pliable and soft to the touch - it’s a brand new technology and we’re going to be the first ones debuting in this fashion."
