Ultimate had a clean ending...it made sense and honored what the character was all about
the transition (of a certain badguy) in 700 seemed forced, rushed and completely unnatural....and it really pissed me off the way Parker was treated by Marvel
somewhere/someplace...Stan Lee is shaking his head

but hey...once sales of "Superior" bottom out i'm sure we'll see Parker again

there's been a very quiet rumor floating around that Guillermo del Toro was planning some kind of DC film...well it seems those rumors are true
this article is too long to copy and paste but it's very well written/laid out so i wanted to pass along the link
gotta say that i really like the sound of this

Dark Universe

i'm not one to stray too far from "superhero" comics but after all the rave reviews i've been reading about Brian Vaughan's new book, i decided to give it a go
comic book readers will know Vaughan for a couple of his previous projects...Ex Machina and Y: The Last Man
add Fiona Staples' incredible artwork into the mix and you might just have THE best comic in the last decade..ya, it's that good

i downloaded the 1st digital issue from Comixology because (to be honest) it was free (figured i couldn't lose )...i was hooked immediately and have torn thru all 8 issues since then

if you like comics..this is a MUST READ...think space opera/fantasy
or as Vaughan himself described it...Star Wars for perverts

one of my favourite DC comics comes to an end today...Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E
incredibly unusual book...and recently it was a nice tie-in to Swamp Thing's/Animal Man's Rotworld storyline
will miss you Frank

but on a positive note..can't wait for Saga #9 and the much anticipated Batman #16

Hey shadow, just finished issue 1 of Saga. Gotta admit I'm hooked! Already have an instant connection with the characters and very interested to see where this goes. Gonna definitely get the next few issues.

awesome bud...glad you enjoyed it
nice thing about Comixology is that they're offering #2-#7 for $1.99 instead of the usual $2.99...so you'll save a few bucks as you catch up
just finished 9 yesterday...10 can't come quick enough

Yeah definitely gonna grab 2-9. Also had a chance to read the first issue of y the last man. May give that a go as well.
I love the free section, gives me a chance to try some new books out.
Any suggestions for must reads?

keep in mind that i haven't read any of the following suggestions but all the reviews i've been reading have been "high end"

The Manhattan Projects...
Quote:
It is a story about an alternate history of the end of World War II in which the Manhattan Project was a front for other more esoteric science fiction ideas.
can't go wrong with writer Jonathan Hickman...i've heard this series is excellent...fairly new book (think there are only 9 issues so far ?)...pretty sure Comixology has the 1st issue for free

Scalped...
Quote:
The series focuses on the Oglala Lakota inhabitants of the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation in modern-day South Dakota as they grapple with organized crime, rampant poverty and alcoholism, local politics and the preservation of their cultural identity.
this series just wrapped up fairly recently (60 issues ?)...think crime/western
it's been on most top 10 comics list this year

Sweet Tooth...
Quote:
Dubbed by some as "Mad Max meets Bambi", it takes place in a mostly rural post-apocalyptic setting where some creatures are human/animal hybrids.
i've heard SO many good things about this one...just finished up and i think it ran for 40 issues

Chew...
Quote:
It is a story about an FDA Agent who solves crimes by getting psychic impressions by eating things, including people.
Eisner Award winner from writer John Layman...sitting at 39 issues (?)...another series that i've heard nothing but amazing reviews all the way thru
Comixology has the 1st issue for free

check those out for a start
if you're interested in a few "superhero" books i'll pass along some suggestions for those if need be

Manhatten Project sounds really good.... i love those alternate history stories!
i'll give that a try for sure, and Scalped too, thanks.
if the first issue of Chew is free, i'll definitely DL that and see if it tickles my fancy.

as for superhero ones, yes please... what do you recommend?

i'll try to even up with a couple from both DC and Marvel

DC

Batman (New 52)
yes, it's probably a little obvious to go with Batman but trust me....this is an amazing comic !...pretty much #1 on everybody's top comics list
Scott Snyder (writer) and Greg Capullo (artist) have combined and produced THE best Batman run for the last 10-15 years imho
if you're looking for quality from a superhero comic...this is the one to pick up...you can't go wrong with it...period

Aquaman (New 52)
yes, Aquaman ...most definitely the surprise hit for DC's new 52..., Geoff Johns (writer) and Ivan Reis (artist) have done the impossible...they've given the character back the respect he deserves...we've all heard the nerdy/goofy Aquaman jokes over the years but trust me, this is an excellent comic...i've dropped other DC characters but i will continue to read this one because it's just that good
Comixology has #1 on sale for .99...do yourself a favour and check it out

Dial H
a lesser known release since DC's new 52..consistently excellent reviews...i read issue #1 and was very impressed...the only reason i dropped it was because i just had too many others on the go...would be worth a look

Legends of The Dark Knight
this started off as a "digital only" release...each download is .99 (always released on Thursdays)....it has recently been released in book form
assorted stories from different writers/artists...i love this series

Marvel

Uncanny X-Force
i mentioned this series here a few times already...probably the best Marvel comic i've read for years now...Rick Remender is an excellent writer...add the incredible art from Jerome Opena and you have the "Dynamic Duo" of Marvel...this comic is a must read imho

Daredevil
Mark Waid has totally revamped this character...this one is on my top 3 favourite Marvel series..it has a wonderful "Silver Age" feel to it...just a really fun book to read with great storylines...definitely worth checking out

All New X-Men and Avengers (Marvel Now)
these two titles just started a few weeks ago and i'm really liking what i'm seeing so far...both are off to an excellent start (particularly Avengers)

there are many others that i read (about 25 books in total) but these are the ones i'd recommend picking up first...then you can branch off to others if you wish
if you need more suggestions just ask
