iFanboy has ran an article the last few weeks called "Great Pages"....i've really enjoyed reading them so i thought i'd share them here at RF (hopefully on a regular basis)
i'll start off with this one...

Great Pages: BATMAN #251

Quote:
For a whole comic book reading generation, The Joker was nothing more than a simple Batman villain with a clown gimmick. His Silver Age adventures concerned such decidedly soft capers as attempting to make his own Joker-themed utility belt and setting up a Crime-of-the-Month Club. Cesar Romero’s take on the character in the 1960s Batman television show brought this version to life. It was all very slight and fun. It was also nothing like the character that had been originally conceived. In his original appearance in 1940′s Batman #1, the Joker had been a homicidal maniac, more than willing to sacrifice lives for his desires. Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams brought this version of the character back.

O’Neil and Adams knew how to work together as they’d had a famous run on Green Lantern/Green Arrow. In Batman #251, the very first page shocked readers with a Joker more grotesque and maniacal than most of them had ever read before. This was a Joker that could unnerve readers. Adams’ style meant than this Joker was also more physically realistic than any of the previous version. This is the Joker that has been in the DCU ever since.

and your pull list and Comic Run for April 18th...

no idea how the writing will turn out, but i like what i see so far from the artists...

First Glimpse at Before Watchmen

Quote:
Last week, DC Comics launched The New Frontiersman website, a fun promotional site using the Watchmen Universe's fictional newspaper as a device to promote the upcoming event.

Over the weekend at C2E2, DC showed a black-and-white collage of Before Watchmen interior pages at a retailer's summit, which has now been added to the New Frontiersman site:

It looks to me like a collection of the many different books, with each panel taken from a different title. Nonetheless, with the first Before Watchmen comics launching in less than two months, keep an eye on the New Frontiersman (and, of course, IGN Comics) for even more images.

looks like we're going to get a Dark Knight Rises trailer with the Avengers film

speaking of the Avengers...reviews are coming in and it sounds incredibly good...sitting at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes right now...here's some examples of what the critics are saying...

Quote:
Like a superior, state-of-the-art model built from reconstituted parts, Joss Whedon's buoyant, witty and robustly entertaining superhero smash-up is escapism of a sophisticated order.
Quote:
Josh Whedon has pulled together an action movie of real wit, fun and spectacle, with some remarkable setpieces for a director not previously noted for visual flair.
Quote:
Wildly entertaining yet brilliantly cohesive, wonderfully characterised, deftly humorous and packed with heart, this is an absolute winner.
Quote:
Something remarkable: a superhero movie that entertains, excites, explodes, and even takes time to examine itself, and the world in which we live in.
Quote:
The Avengers delivers! Considering the challenges and pitfalls of assembling disparate heroes and subplots, the skillfully-helmed movie is an effective balancing act between individual stories and collective goals.
reviews like these go on and on and on

I'm getting to the point where i prefer 2D to 3D but yes, it's available in 3D

But from what i've heard (don't quote me cause i'm not sure), this film was not actually shot in 3D...just rendered post-production...big difference
Sue and I will probably see it in 2D

Here's hoping Nolan and company have cleaned up Bane's voice problems...could barely understand anything he said in that earlier trailer...and ya, IMAX is the way to go

another "Great Page"...EX MACHINA #1

Quote:
Brian K. Vaughan is known for stellar first issues. The first issues of Y: The Last Man, Runaways, and Logan all have high-concept hooks. Each one presented a world that readers could relate to and featured a major subversion to that world before the issue’s final page. But none of them ended their first issue with an image that literally caused some readers to catch their breath. Ex Machina #1 did that.

Tony Harris and Brian K. Vaughan presented readers with Mitchell Hundred, the world’s only superhero. Dubbed ‘The Great Machine,’ Hundred lived in New York City. The first issue jumped between his early career and his life after being elected New York City’s major. When readers turned the final page of that first issue, they saw what event propelled Hundred into his mayoral role: He’d stopped the second plane on 9/11, saving the World Trade Center’s South Tower. Seeing this final image, which only revealed itself with one last turn of the page, was extraordinary. It was comic booking at its very best.

added another piece to my collection yesterday...the Kotobukiya Magneto

Erick Sosa continues to be the best sculpter out there and Kotobukiya should feel very fortunate to have him working for them
very dynamic pose with a switch-out head (non-helmet)...the 2 (floating) metal pieces are a great touch

and my consistently crappy pic (think it's time to invest in a new camera)

The Avengers Reaches $178.4 Million Internationally

Link

Quote:
ComingSoon.net has posted the weekend box office estimates which show that Marvel's The Avengers has already reached $178.4 million at the international box office before opening in North America on May 4th. Here's an excerpt:

Meanwhile, Marvel's The Avengers was released overseas as "Avengers Assemble" into 39 territories (roughly 70% of its international run), and has brought in $178.4 million since opening on Wednesday. It opened at #1 in every single one of those territories while setting opening weekend records in many South and Central American countries where it opened. Some of the individual numbers include $24.7 million from the UK, $19.7 million from Australia, $15.9 million from Mexico and $12.9 million from Korea. The movie opened in 94 IMAX locations worldwide, pulling in $5.6 million (the highest gross for a Marvel IMAX title internationally), averaging $59,256 per location.

another Great Page...Uncanny X-Men #132

Quote:
When Wolverine debuted in 1974, he wasn’t the unstoppable force of nature that future stories would present him to be. True, he had claws and could heal quickly, but he didn’t quite have that killer instinct. Wolverine talked a big game but hadn’t had the opportunity to really back it up. In 1980, he would finally get his chance to prove himself to readers.

In the middle of Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s Dark Phoenix Saga, the X-Men had all been captured by the Hellfire Club. Wolverine, thought to be dead, had been dumped into the sewers. Although Uncanny X-Men #133 featured Wolverine stalking his way back inside the Hellfire Club, taking out many of the Club’s bodyguards along the way, it was the final page of #132 that was most memorable. Wolverine, though battered and hurting, began to unleash his rage. This moment helped make Wolverine a true fan favorite and propelled his stories for the next 30 years.

The Avengers' Half-Billion Haul

link

Quote:
After last weekend's record-breaking box office numbers overseas, Marvel's The Avengers is now anticipated to exceed $500 million globally by Sunday.

Joss Whedon's tentpole, which only debuted internationally late last week, has already raked in a whopping $218 million in its first six days. As we noted yesterday, the film shattered numerous box office records including biggest opening weekend for a superhero movie in the U.K. and the biggest opening ever for Latin American markets, including Mexico and Brazil. At this rate, The Avengers is likely to gross $350-400 million by Sunday, boosted by its premiere in China and Russia this weekend.
The 3D film will open at midnight Thursday in North America, where it's expected to open upwards of $150 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on preliminary tracking, some box office observers estimate the movie will finish the weekend with a global gross north of $500 million, if not closer to $600 million.
