I just filled my car up the other day cost me $10 more than it usually does. All this bullshit in the middle east has gas at $1.30 here in BC. On top of that we pay some stupid carbon tax which is gonna bring gas up 12 cents next year because somehow taxing gas (on top of the 50% tax we already pay on gasoline) is gonna help save the Enviroment.

As someone who spends 400$ a month on gas, that's music to my ears.

i don't deny the value of transportation - particularly commercial transportation - but we need to promote other technologies in order to reduce the consumption of a limited resource that we're much better off diverting to purposes that don't already have workable alternatives. i don't oppose cars but i am certain that we should be making better choices about what constitutes fuel.

there's a connected issue of what car culture does to our urban planning and social organization that i find really interesting too. james howard kunstler's book 'the geography of nowhere' is a pretty good look at this.
