Default First Job

I am going to work at CDI computers in 2 weeks in the accounting field. Is there anything I should know before I go? Anything specific I have to wear? Things I shouldn't do at work

Wear a two tone suit with snake skin shoes. Be sure to drink your ovaltine before you go and whatever you do, try not to look like an ass or else you'll blow it.

they didn't say anything except that I'm allowed to refuse unsafe work and ask for help if I'm not sure about how to do something.

Best they let me keep the job as it is right beside my school so I can run back for afterschool activities

Yeah, i would ask them. It sounds like you'd have to wear business attire for starters.

On a side note, i have an interview on Monday with another firm. I haven't had an interview in 11yrs, i've been with the same company since 2000. But the company was bought out by another company and it just isn't the right fit for me.

Anyway, i'm nervous as hell. This is a bigtime company, and if i can get it, it would be a great opportunity and more money. One quick question, is it ok to have written notes/questions with you in the interview? Things you want to know about the company? I never did that in the past, but i've heard of people doing that and it would make you look more prepared, no? Is it unprofessional?

Anyone have other tips?

jeff - arrive early. be courteous to everyone. look people in the eye when you shake their hand. show enthusiasm for and interest in the company and what they do. don't guess at anything. dress in a shirt, tie and jacket even if they say you can dress casual. don't discuss money if you can avoid it.

Congrats, answer. I would be interested in working at an accounting job because I plan to get into that field. Co-op program?

And jeff good luck with your interview. I don't think bringing in notes make you look unprofessional unless you read off it. But for my interview, I did bring in some paper that I could record notes on and placed them in a binder. Anyways, you're the adult and I'm the kid lol.

Confidence bradaaaaa

Make sure you research about the company's history and past, so it looks like you took the time to learn more about them. Always impresses them.

Absolutely have pre-written questions, it makes you look prepared and the quality of those questions are likely higher than they've seen before.

I agree with the suggestions above but you don't need to be scared to talk about money. It's fine but it should NOT be the primary reason for your job change or your main focal point. Then it looks awful. That said, generally is best to avoid it but you can mention it if you can do so tactfully.

It would actually worry me about the 2 hours. Not about my prospects of the job but wtf is that company doing?

An interview should not take 2 hours unless there are specific tasks/goals/presentations to perform

One guy interviewed me then he gave me essentially a test to do which took about 30 minutes. Then another guy came in and interviewed me as well. When i left i just didn't get a good vibe about my chances. I was told they'd be sending out offers by the end of the week. We'll see i guess.

Like said before man, confidence! Have to think you're getting that job no matter what. It's the first thing I've always looked for when I have to do interviews.

Am I supposed to talk about the work shift time during the interview? I am looking to work with them a half an hour earlier than the allotted time slot for our school.
