Default Favorite Albums/Songs 2010

I realize that 2010 still has a lot of kick left in it, but year-end looms. I thought I'd start a bit of conversation about music that was released this year.

For me, I think Arcade Fire's album, The Suburbs, is my favorite. It's big-room sound with an indie soul. Totally in control. I realize their songs are not for everyone's personal taste, but to me the writing and execution they display is second to no other band in the world. If they keep on the way they have been they will be in a league with Radiohead and The Beatles; all bands that make me shiver.

I liked the Hot Chip album, cool stuff.

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening - Murphy is a total genius. Using punk attitude and imaginative organic sounds to flavour his dancefloor stormers is remarkable.

Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty - This album is amazing! Big Boi is smooth, funny, smart. You name it. The beats are great and the whole album is focused. I really think it's as good or better than any Outkast release. And I LOVE Outkast.

Gorillaz - Plastic Beach

Free Energy - Stuck On Nothing

Kanye!! I don't really care either way what kind of a dude Kanye is. Seems like a dick, but whatever, this album is tight! Other than the Chris Rock skit which is kinda lame.

Some songs I liked

Charlie Winston - Hobo
Royal Wood - On Top Of Your Love
Janella Monae - Tightrope
Cee Lo Green - Fuck You

Wolf Parade album is nice.

I'll add more later. Your turn!

Nice picks! I totally overlooked all three when making my list. Great albums. I totally didn't expect to like Die Antwoord at all.

I think Drake's Thank Me Later was impressive. My favourite songs on that were Over, Up All Night, Find Your Love, Light Up and Fancy.

Eminem's Recovery had 2 amazing songs: Not Afraid and Love the Way You Lie.

Some stand-out songs were: B.O.B. ft Haley Williams-Airplanes, Usher-DJ Got Us Falling in Love, Jason Derulo-Riding Solo, K'naan- Take a Minute, and Nelly- Just a Dream.

A recent song I liked was Dr. Dre and company- Kush.

I'll give the nod to my boys Chromeo for "Business Casual".

I can't remember if Gil Scott-Heron's "i'm new here" is from 2010 or 2009, but that's actually been my favorite new music from the last few years. So very moving and brilliant.

Actually i am just figuring out how little new music i listen too. Judging by ReRoar's first post and pretty much everywhere on the internet i should really check out the new LCD soundsystem record. What else even came out this year? oh ya there's Odessa by Caribou. that was good. I liked Tiga's new record, but it fell a little short.

i realize this album doesn't quite make the cut-off date of 2010 (was released in Nov 2009) but to be honest, nothing has come close to it since...love every track but Reptiles and Gunman are probably my faves

this album KICKS ASS !
and btw...JPJ is a God

JPJ has confirmed that the band is ready to resume working on putting together material for a new album...possible late 2011 release

can't wait !!

Gotta go with LCD soundsystem, Black Keys, Arcade Fire, and Janelle Monae - although that car ad is making me lose some love for her music. i'm sure I'm forgetting lots - oh yeah - the Tom Waits Glitter and Doom album.

Kanye West's album, My Dark Twisted Fantasy, is going to be a strong competitor for album of the year. I just listened to the songs, and they were absolutely amazing. They were all brilliantly connected.

My fave album in 2010 is Drake's Thank Me Later. I pretty much love most of the song in that album and I always play it everytime I'm tokin. Katy Perry's Teenage Dream album is awesome too.

I'm also rockin Taylor Swift's Speak Now album, and Kid Kudi's Man on the Moon II.

Crazy year rap/hip hop albums wise, even the last month, great albums came out. For me:

Kanye West-MBDTF
Kid Cudi-MOTM2
Eminem-Recovery
J.Cole-Friday Night Lights (mixtape)
Cee Lo Green-The Lady Killer
Mellowhype-Blackenedwhite (sick free mixtape)
Consequence-Movies On Demand (mixtape)
Ice Cube-I am the West
Pilot Talk 1&2-Curren$y

sick year, can't wait for Detox in 2011
