Hmm I think I'll get the general consensus here. Should I make a Facebook account? Why or why not? Thanks

Well if your worried about privacy I guess you shouldn't. IMO personal privacy is going out the window anyways so thats a bad idea. I find my facebook account gets stalked on more than anything as I never update it.

Its up to you Gurkie. Its a decent way to socialize i suppose

Yo gurk honestly man I only signed up a few months ago, gr12 so could stay in touch with friends after graduating, kinda forced to make an account lol but it's alright imo

There are a lot of types of ppl on fb lol:

Some update with random shit every 5 mins, write notes and shit and are addicted to it.

I hate ppl wo take fb that seriously, I chck my pg once a while, post jokes YouTube clips I see here and wish ppl happy birthday. I mean it's always weird when your talking to someone and they ask if ur on fb and having to say no especially being around our age lol and it's always ccool talking to ppl you haven't seen in the longest time

Can't we all be friends? Lol

If you want to share pictures, share your life with the people you choose, go for it. I enjoy it. It's a simple communication tool.

Personally, I don't have an account and I don't see the point of getting one (of course, this is coming from someone who thought high school was the height of hellish hell and doesn't socialise with any high school friends) ... between work and life, and now with the baby coming, there's no time. If I want to catch up, I call or write an email.

So I also choose option 2.

I use Facebook. I don't take it seriously (changing my status ever hour or something). I use it as a way to keep in touch with friends.

The way I see it, if you're forced into using Facebook because everyone's using it, don't do it. You'll probably give up after 2 weeks anyways vecause you're not motivated.

Someone between 11 and 25 doesnt have Facebook?? Wow. Surprised.

I have it and I have to say it has been a positive experience.

For starters, I am 47 y/o. That means a lot of my old school chums didnt have email or even computers. Or even my old students from back in the early 90's.

I have re aquainted with a bunch of high school buddies (and ex-girlfriends). That has been kinda cool.

And an old group of students (who are now 32+ y/o) found me and invited me to their Canada Day party. That was awesome. I stay in touch with them still.

If you are going to post evey time you change a channel or "cant sleep" or whatever, then it's just a cry for attention.

Set yourself up Gurk. Just dont be a needy FB person.

Like Taz, I don't want to re-live high school days. And sometimes I hate Facebook. BUT, for me, it's been good for a few reasons. Living in Niagara, I can keep in touch and know what's up with all my Toronto friends. Living in Toronto, vice versa. It's also been a great marketing tool and I've made wonderful contacts that have led to new things.

There are some definite downsides to Facebook, no doubt. There's too much information that can be accessed. Facebook has been the cause of cheating, breakups, friendships ending, etc, etc... because it makes all of those things too easy.

That said, I like it for my own purposes. Go for it, Gurk.

i dont see why not if you won't be addicted cuz imo it can be time consuming. just dont be the type of person who wakes up and looks at their facebook first before anything else. its can get annoying because alot of strangers will add you and your information might be shared.

I'm not an avid user but it is useful to keep in touch with old friends who you haven't seen in a while or live in another country. I recently went out with a female buddy of mine who was visiting and I hadn't seen in 18 years and had a great time.

Its also funny to play the "where are they now?" game as this cute girl I made out with in grade 8 is on my facebook 20 years later and I'm glad I dodged that bullet as she is quite the opposite of attractive now.

Facebook is good if you use it correctly and it's a fantastic networking tool. If you don't have LinkedIn it's a great way to promote your resume etc. I use FB primarily to talk and organize activities with friends.

I use Linkedin for professional uses.

I noticed that, too. I didn't mind high school. In fact, I had a lot of fun. I was completely oblivious to all kinds of shit that now bothers me. Having said that, I can totally understand why some people absolutely hated high school. A few of my high school friends had a rough time. Their strengths were under appreciated in that environment, and sometimes even the cause of some problems.

Anyways, I have a facebook account but I rarely use it.

If you didn't like high school because of all the superficiality, popularity, beauty and fun people were having, then you might not like facebook. There is a lot of narcissism and illusions on it.

On the other hand, I've found it pretty useful for school, just to add classmates and get in touch with them more quickly.

But it is a distracting place, almost the complete opposite of intellectually stimulating, and easy to waste a lot of time on it.

edit: I find it's great for knowing where I can play basketball. On the news feed, there's usually a couple of guys letting everyone know where evening ball can be played that night. Helpful to know.

I made a account like 4 years ago on facebook. After highschool I barely ever used it. People go on it way too much these days.
