Earth Hour

What are you doing tonight?

js12 03-26-2011 09:43 PM

Turned off most of the lights last hour.

How many people honestly participated?

Barracuda 03-26-2011 09:46 PM

I turned off all my lights and took the dog for a walk.

js12 03-26-2011 09:49 PM

I hate it when I see neighbours with all their lights on. I understand if one or two are on, but at least make an effort...

Yeah, most of my neighbours left everything on. I was surprised, because most ppl in the west end tend to be more "environmental".

I live in the west end.

I don't think people are any more environmental.

Even my brown parents thought it was crucial to turn all the lights off for a while...times are changing.

It actually makes sense. They are trying to save every penny they can. Typical brown parent :p

I completely forgot. I'm not big on symbolism either. I know it has a place. I'm just not big on it.

MrClutch 03-26-2011 10:54 PM

I honestly forgot, maybe ill participate next year

But Toronto only saw a 5 per cent power drop during the event — half of the reduction achieved during Earth Hour in 2010.

Quote:

The 5 per cent power reduction equals a drop of about 115 megawatts for the one hour period – the equivalent of about 35,000 homes or 12 skyscrapers going off the grid.

I turned off my lights, and to allow myself to still see I burned a big pile of tires dosed in gas in the back yard.

th3answ3r 03-27-2011 11:01 AM

i think this year, it wasn't advertised as much. so not everybody was informed. still, it shouldn't take a special event for us to save energy, it should be a constant routine.

m5racer 03-27-2011 12:04 PM

I forgot all about it, although, I usually try to use as few lights as possible

XiaominWu 03-27-2011 12:50 PM

read to the kids by candlelight for an hour.

Aar_Canada 03-27-2011 04:08 PM

I believe we're powered wholly by hydroelectricity around here, so I don't see the point.
