Default Dog Puked 6 times in last 24 hours!

hey, how's everybody doing?

so, my dog has puked like 6 times in the last 24 hours. all he has ate is kibbles and bits and a rib or meat bone.

could he have gotten food poisoning from the bone? he keeps on puking up chunks and a lot of gel type yellow stuff that i think is vile. should i take him to the vets today or wait to see if he does it again?

it's strange because he puked 3 times yesterday around noon or 1 pm. but, then he rested for a bit inside and within five minutes he wanted to go back outside and was all rambunctios again.

at first I assumed it was because of the heat and humidity and he has black fur. But, it has to be either that and something else or something else.

the feedback is appreciated

i would be worried about the bone... is there a chance he broke off a splinter? bones can be very dangerous for dogs. what kind of bone was it? beef? cooked or raw or smoked? what kind of dog do you have - large breed or small breed? are the jaws big enough to break the bone into bits?

if he/she has a jagged or sharp piece of bone in his stomach that would explain the puking. the body is trying to rid itself of this thing before it gets into the intestines.

is there any blood in the vomit?

what color is the vomit?
is this normal? does you dog usually throw up often?

is he acting differently? does he look sad/depressed?

nope no blood and it's a german shepherd the exact same size as and look as your normal police dog.

he pretty much looks like this. i don't know the type of bone because i wasn't here when it was given to him. all i know is it was like a rib or other meat bone. but, all the meat was off of it.

um, it's got an iron jaw and sharp ass teeth because it's the police dog type. so, I don't know about the jagged pieces but, it's possible.

he's looking sad. but, sometimes he just does thatf or no reason. so, it's nothing out of the complete ordinary.

and like i said the vomit is yellow with chnks of like kibbles and bits or something.

if he's puking up kibbles and bits. i think if it was a piece of bone he would have thrown it up too. i'm not sure if he's tooken a dump, yet.

he could have intestinal problems and he's puking because he can't pooh. i hope it's npot that because then we have as erious problem.

i dunno... you have to be very careful with bones. give him only big strong ones, and certainly not pork or poultry bones, they're way too brittle. a rib is not very big or strong, so it's quite possible that he broke it up, especially if it was a pork rib. that's a definite no-no. the only ones i'll give to my dog are the big smoked beef bones. everything else he breaks up and swallows. if the puking stops now, then fine, but if it continues or if you notice any blood in his vomit or stool i'd take him right to the vet. if he swallowed a sharp piece of bone it could be lethal without an operation.

yellow is good.
my dog always barfs yellow.... so i'm guessing thats a good thing.

make sure he drinks lots.
when's the last time he took a shit? or peed?

its probably the bone for sure thats got him barfing. especially if he's not used to eating those things. the first time i gave my dog mcdonalds fries, he barfed about 4 times in a row. but im guessing it was the salt. or maybe the fact that he never ate that kind of stuff before and his tummy didnt like it. i dunno.
if you're really concerned, call your vet, they should give you symtoms to watch for and tell you what to do.

not that worried just being precasutios. my dog has had a ton of bones before. i don't know maybe it's mixed with the heat.

First off go to a vet. He might have gotten food poisoning.

that seems the most likely candidate as well as possible mild heat stroke or something.

unless your dog has a history of stomach problems, i highly doubt food poisoning is an issue. he would have had to eat something pretty rotten. the stomachs of most dogs are pretty tough, and when they are weak, you ususally know about it pretty early in teh dog's life.

is he still puking?

Puking could mean there is a problem with his kidneys. My mutt had kidney failure and kept puking because the kidneys couldnt process properly.

Defiantly a trip to the vets. Blood tests etc. Good luck.

i wouldn't rush to the vet unless your dog continues to puke, won't eat and won't drink, and especially if it won't poop.

there's a good chance he got out what he needed to get out and is just resting now. if he's settled, all you'll do is incur hundreds of dollars in vet charges.

if he continues to puke, won't eat or drink and can't shit, by all means go to the vet.

agreed.
vets are very costly.... and time consuming.
would you go to the hospital if you barfed or had an upset stomach?
probably not... you'd only go if it lasted more than a day. do the same thing with your dog. he's probably just got an upset tummy.

that's why my first concern was about a bone splinter. that can turn nasty quick. if you can find the bone and see that it is intact, no worries. just wait it out and see. if the bone has a big splinter or a chunk missing, that's when i would get to the vet asap.

if you ever worry that your dog has swallowed something, you can always make it barf by giving it a tablespoon of salt. they don't like it, but it works every time. clearly in this case that is not applicable.

i was going to say the same thing. happened to one of my dogs before. her kidneys shutdown on her and she couldn't digest any food because of it.

no, but, he seems lost for some reason. his look is like spaced otu or something and he seems really lazy.

that's pretty normal. but he seems to puke like 3 times every morning since yesterday. and then it stops it's weird
