Smile Does anyone here play the bass?

So I got myself into quite the pickle.

I agreed to be a part of this youth band, and offered to play the bass. My only problem is that I don't have any real training or lessons on the playing the bass. They gave me a 4 string bass to play, and the song we are learning really only needs me to know how to play F#, C#, and G#. Basically, I need to know where these chords (is it called chords on a bass?) are and how to play them.

This is the song we are learning:

Many thank-yous in advance, kind sirs.

Pretty sure if you look up the tabs for the song they will show you what notes to play and when,

Usually you don't play chords in a bass. Not in songs like this at least. Couldn't find a tab for this. To play along, you just need to play (Acie or Trane might be able to add or change something, I did it pretty quickly):

Verse:

F# - First String, second fret.
C# - Second String, fourth fret.
G# - First String, fourth fret.

Prechorus:

C - Third Fret
C# - Second String, fourth fret.
D#

Chorus:

C#
F#

Then in that scream in the middle:

C#
G#
F - First String, first Fret
D#

Theres a million things you could do that could make the bass more interesting here. But i guess that if you don't have anyone to teach you a couple tricks you'll have to stick to playing the root notes.

Another tip. Make sure you are in tune.

Bro tip: Convince your bandmates not to play such a shitty song.

DK,

I'm guessing you're playing this song because your band is connected to your church. If you have to play some Christian rock songs, you ladies and gents should consider Anberlin. They are a Christian rock group that plays a number of songs that are passible for normal rock. I actually really like a few of their tunes. You guys might like them too.

I can't play it really loud right now because everyone is sleeping, but it sounds like this to me:

Intro:

F# - C#

Verses

F# - C#

Pre-Chorus

G# - F# - G# - F#

Chorus

C# - F#

Bridge

F# - G# - A#m - G#
