Disney is buying Lucasfilm, the company behind the Star Wars films, from its chairman and founder George Lucas for $4.05bn (2.5bn).

Mr Lucas said: "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of film-makers."

In a statement announcing the purchase, Disney said it planned to release a new Star Wars film, episode seven, in 2015.

That will be followed by episodes eight and nine and then one new movie every two or three years, the company said.

The last Star Wars film was 2005's Revenge of the Sith, and Disney said it believed there was "substantial pent-up demand".

I like the news.

4, 5 and 6 will forever stand alone for me. That shit was timeless.

1, 2 and 3 as bad as they were, still were tolerable from a fans perspective.

The exciting thing is that they can get creative now that GL has stepped away. Gotta get some tremendous people involved with the project. Christopher Nolan anyone? lol

Disney is not just kids movies. They have something key. Unlimited $$$$$$$.

They also made some pretty sweet superhero films in the past few years.

'trane 10-31-2012 09:23 PM

we'll see. disney makes everything middle of the road.

Lucas sold it to Disney because they can maintain the franchise into the future so people 50 years from now can watch his movies. They can also expand the Star Wars universe with their theme parks, tv stations, toys, etc...
they might make the live action tv show Lucas is always talking about
and they did well with Marvel

true enough fancy.

Jar Jar Binks killed the franchise. I failed to make it through any parts of the latest trilogy.

Obi Wan's origin story + cameo from Liam Neeson at the end = $$$$$$

fact is that there are hundreds of different storylines Disney could adapt to the screen
will be very interested to see where all this goes
my fingers are crossed and hoping for the best

Brilliant move by Disney..... just about every little boy out there (and plenty of little girls) loves Star Wars. This will be a major win for them. And I'm hopeful that we'll see some good films in the next decade.

INSIDER 11-01-2012 01:38 PM

well, everyone was up in arms when Disney bought Marvel.... and since the purchase, Marvel movies have been awesome. so lets hope that continues.
