![]() I think i remember Mr. M suggesting way back when to set up a thread like this. I just happen to need some computer advice at the moment, so this seems like a good opportunity to make a thread like this.
My question: Can anyone tell me the cheapest way to make a PC wireless. I believe one can buy usb wireless adaptors from pretty much any computer store for around $20. Has anyone had experience with such things? are they good? |

![]() i don't need a router as I already have a wireless signal via my modem. I just have to move the modem into another room and i don't want to do the really really long cable thing. Just trying to make a desktop PC be able to connect to a wireless network.

![]() thanks acie. I was wondering about those types of usb devices.
Obviously they seem easy to set up and are cheap enough, but i wasn't sure how good the connection would be. I'll get something like if not that exact one. ![]() |

![]() I threw my D-Link router in the snow in the backyard and bought the Belkin. I was having problems with it right out of the box and the customer support was ass.

![]() Personally, I have had mixed results with the USB sticks. I did not find that any of the 4 I tried were particularly durable and signal strength was not great. You can get PCI and PCI-E wireless cards for dirt cheap and they're simple to install.
Newegg.ca - Rosewill RNX-G300LX IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless Card Up to 54Mbps Data Rates 64/128-Bit WEP, 802.1x, WPA, WPA2, AES, TKIP with 2 dBi Antenna |

![]() I have a friend with a Minuet and I think he has a wireless card. I'll chat with him and see how he did it. I'm fairly sure that a short, right-angle riser will do the trick for you if everything is on its side (although, if you mean it is the usual install, you should be able to poke through the bottom where it looks like 4 vents).
