can i use the software on more than one computer ? (such as Norton's)
It depends on the software. Some software will have a one PC per license agreement. Some will not. Some will have such a license but will never connect over the internet to compare licenses, so it will never find out you're using multiple instances. Hard to say, but if you give some specific examples, I might be able to help.

An upgrade from XP is not possible. You can only do a clean (aka "custom") installation.

Simple questions are often the most important and most overlooked. Don't worry about it.

you see those 4 metal covered slots at the bottom of your tower? Those should be PCI slots, you'll have to open up your CPU, unscrew one of the slots to open it up and then just fit the card into it so the antenna is sticking out, a simply easy task tbh.

I'd imagine PCI slots employ a standard size.

ya but the tower is less than half the size of a normal tower and because of that everything lies on its side (i.e the dvd drive is side mounted in the front). my issue would be both connecting the card at a different anlgle and then having a card where the back part that sits in the slot is wayyy shorter than a normal one.

Oh and for Mr. M's question, my suggestion is STAY AWAY from Windows 7. I hate it. My parents have it and i find a lot of basic shit just doesn't work as well with it as it did on XP. For example i got them a logitech remote and the stupid thing won't at all connect on 7. Took it to my place and i could set it up fine with XP.

true true it's gonna be tight squeeze, would probably be better to go with the USB adapter then.

funny, but this is my biggest concern and the main reason i've been so hesitant in making the move
can't stand the Vista program on my laptop...the software literally drives me insane sometimes
LOVE XP....don't really want to get rid of it
really torn as to which way to go

For those still using XP, here's a handy little website dedicated to tutorials related to tweaking out all the needless crapola which runs on Windows. It's amazing how much more smoothly things run when stuff's turned the freak off.

Fancy, did you ever end up getting your Mac? (Apologies, I'm completely out of the loop.) How do you like it?

Yeah i touched on it in that original thread.

i got a basic macbook and it TOTALLY ROCKS MY WORLD.

now there are somethings i don't care for with the mac OS like how it duplicates some files and other things that go behind the scenes. I also am not crazy about iphoto, but all in all i find i t a completely superior product to any windows related garbage.

YAY! I'm excited that it rocks your world!

Duplicates files? Que?? I haven't had that problem.

(I don't care for iPhoto either. My husband loves how it organises everything in life but I don't think I have the patience for it.)

i haven't had issues with duplicate files either, unless you're referring to issues with iphoto which i don't really use much.

glad you like it though, i told you you'd come around when you got used to it

iphoto, itunes (it happened to some albums when i was transferring them, but i figured out what the problem was), and also this weird thing that the mac does to my memory stick:

Whenever i use a memory stick, the mac creates some weird folders that you can't see on the mac. You can't see them on a pc either unless if you select the option to view hidden files. I ended up with something like 700MB of weird folders and files that i could totally attribute to the mac.

That's the thing with macs that i find strange: how so much is hidden. At first i found it odd, but now i don't really care.

This is related: Initally i took this one step early on with my mac when i was transferring my mp3's off my ipod to the mac where i openned some command centre on my mac (don't remember the official title) and typed in some command to view ALL possible files through finder. Anyways, you know how your files look all nice and neat in finder? Well the reality is when you see all the hidden files on there, it's a bloody hot mess. Thankfully the computer was designed to not have to deal with that.

Extra 700 MB of crap? Where was this? (My husband wants to know. Apparently, he has never noticed it.)

I'm 99.9% sure it will fit fine without issue.
Generally wireless cards for PCs are relatively small (like sound cards).

i don't really know. Tell him to put some stuff from a mac onto a memory stick. change some files, delete some files. then put said memory stick on a PC and select to view hidden content. There should be some weird folders.

Windows 7 has more advanced hardware support so you can run things like multiple processing cores and HD & 3D Video cards for gaming.

It's also more user friendly for people like me who are into piracy. It is easier to transfer your illegally downloaded shit onto your computer and have your computer transfer all your data into another device through wifi.

UUGH. wife ruined our PC. It's now loaded with some trojan that shows up in the taskbar as "internet security problem" or some shit like that. Worst thing is that it also hijacked the web browsers so when you open firefox or explorer you can't even access google or any other website. Even better i can't even OPEN malwarebytes program - i'm sure this thing has disabled it for some reason. So fucking annoying. YAY windows! YAY PCs!
