Thumbs down Christmas shopping

I just got back from doing a little Christmas shopping and i've gotta say i've got a massive headache. Oddly i felt fine when i got up this morning. lol

Anyway, every year i say to myself and to anyone who'll listen around September that i'm gonna get my Christmas shopping done early and hopefully be done by November. Yet every year i wait until a week before Christmas to tackle it. I guess i'm a gluten for punishment. How does everyone here handle their Christmas shopping? Do you get it done early or wait 'til the last minute?

Signed, Frustrated shopper!

Same boat. Last christmas I made the unfortunate error of parking in the Yorkdale underground parking. Being accustomed to the late christmas rush I got all my gifts in under an hour. I was stuck in the parking garage for 2 and half hours. Road rage doesn't even begin to describe what went on in my car that day.

I take a day off of work a week before Christmas (usually the Friday before). Then, I go to a few malls really early in the morning (like 8am) and then well, go rock and roll.

Like on Friday hit up Sherway, Sq 1. and Mapleview and was done by 2 pm. Beat all the crazy lines and go the great boxing day deals.

i went Christmas shopping yesterday and intended on buying some stuff for my family. In the end, i ended up going to 4 different book stores and i couldn't find any of the 2 specific books i wanted to get.

Also i never know what to get my mother. Like usual i usually just go shopping blindly and hope that a gift idea just comes to me... and like usual it never works. i'm racking my brains with what to get her!

I'm getting my mother a Mastercard gift card. This way she's not limited to any one store or mall. She can spend it anywhere that accepts Mastercard.

Yeah, she told me that she wanted a gift certificate to a certain clothing store. But i really find that it limits someone. This way if she goes there and doesn't like much, she can go somewhere else and buy something. We'll be shopping on boxing day....I go shopping with 4-5 family members every year.

The GD dragged me out yesterday too. It pissed the shit out of me beucase it parking was a joke, and some stores were so packed we had to just leave. Oh and to top it all off, SOme moron almost backed in my precious car beucase he decdided that once he passed an isle, he saw a spot and threw it into reverse almost backing right into me.

I detest malls. So I went downtown Guelph thinking Guelph had good shopping downtown, but it turns out all the boutiques are downright sappy.

I was stuck.

So last night, I went to the mall (fairview in Kitchener), I brought a tiny spliff with me, which is either hit or miss. Either it kills all motivation for me to shop and I just walk around hating everything in every store, or I get crazy spontaneous ideas and actually become more decisive.

So first I walked around in Walmart which was a complete zoo. Everyone in their was shopping hard. Like 110% effort. I was just people watching and I don't think one of the 1000 people in Walmart met my eyes because they were so keen on filling their carts.

I left Walmart, and went to "North by Northwest" to get my grandpa some shoelaces or socks.

I ended up spending 550 dollars on gloves for the 12 or so people I had to buy for.
Some of them are getting a little something special as well that me and my girlfriend picked out a few weeks ago, but gloves for almost everyone. Different pair of gloves for each person to fit their own personalities.

http://www.manzella.com/

My girlfriend is a mit person, while my sister is more of a driving glove type of girl. Heavy gore-tex for my grandpa, wind-rain resistant lighter gloves for my dad. Etc.

It was a great idea, and I will only do one-stop shopping from now on for Christmas. No wondering around the mall trying to find "the perfect" gift for every single person. "The perfect Gift" is as mythical as "love at first sight".
Every year I will find something practical of high quality, and that is what everyone is getting for the most part.

I might even make it easier next year, and just do one-stop shopping online.
