Funny ... I was just about to ask about cars. I got my full license a week ago and the hubby and I are looking towards getting a new car. We currently have a 1990 Honda clunker that the hubby has been driving since he was 17 and it's on it's last legs. We don't want something spanking new since I still don't have a whole lot of experience with the driving thing. We are thinking of something that has been leased for a few years and is now back at the dealership ... a small Honda or Toyota or Nissan ... he's not too big (around 5"9') and I'm small (5") so we don't want a monstrous car. So, any suggestions?

Hyundais and mitsubishis are relatively cheap and have the best warranties out there.

I have a Saturn and am very happy with it but wouldn't think twice about gettting either of a hyundai or Mittsi.

My saturn Ion has hard plastic on the back of the front seats and suicide doors for the back-has the functionality of 4 doors but styling of 2, and is good on gas.
As a plus-the plastic backing on the seats and suicide doors makes it easy for kids in putting kids in the back and for cleaning the mud that inevitably gets on the back of the front seats.

I strongly endorse the Toyota Matrix. Good mileage (especially the 2wd version), lots of room inside without being a big car, cheap and easy to repair, and Toyotas generally last well above 200000Km. I bought one (a 2003) last year for $14K, with 50000 km on it. It's truly been a perfect car for us.

I had a toyota Paseo and I ran that everyday 375km to and from school on the TCH HARD-talking 140-150km/hr everyday for 2 years and when the motor finally blew it had a little over 400k on it. I put about 195000km on it over the 2 years with NO MONEY put into the motor outside of oil changes.

Toyota makes an EXCELLENT motor.(although their bodies rot out bad.)

Just a note...if you're looking for a new car, always ask the dealership about any demos that they will be sending off the lot soon. You can get some great deals.
