Default Buying a car

So I'm likely going to have to buy a new car?

My options are these:

VW Rabbit
Mazda 3 Sport
Honda Civic Sedan
Toyota Corolla
Toyota Matrix

I'm torn between all of them right now. I love hatchbacks but I also love efficiency. I'm torn. Any advice guys?

I'd go with Matrix.

It's a hatchback, good on gas and Toyota has the highest resale value of all car manufacturers.

if the vw is diesel i'd go with that one. if it's standard you'll get some pretty ridiculous miles per, but the downside is the parts situation

I have had a Mazda3 for three years (i'm up to 99,000km) now and have not had one problem with it.When my lease ends next year i'm getting another one, especially considering that i've seen the great changes their making to the 2010 model. Can't wait!

I would recommend this car to anyone.Myself i prefer the sedan, and would also recommend getting the heated leather seats if you can afford it,Awesome!!

Take a look at the 2010 Mazda3 sedan:

i'd say the mazda or the honda.
2 of my friends own each and have zero complaints.

Buy a Volvo. Your insurance will go down because of their high safety rating.

I had a VW GTI for 5 years, drove the hell out of it and it was a blast. Sex on wheels. I had to put at least 91 octane in it though, so that was a drawback. Efficiency was pretty good though (when I wasn't killing it). But beware with VWs, if you have any maintenance outside of your warranty, you are going to get killed. In the end, I used it as a trade in because the last set of repairs were going to be $2,000+. Good luck.

Oh yeah, my wife is on her third Corolla and swears by them. I drive it sometimes, it's actually a pretty nice car. Doesn't have any style to it, but it is very reliable. Watch out on the Civic sedans, they have some serious blind spots on the front (test drive one and you'll see what I mean).

Personally, i love VW's. I have a Jetta now, and it's great.
However, i think you know Claudius, that you can't really the dependability of a Japanese car. For that reason i'd say go with a Toyota or Honda.

i'd go with the toyota for the reasons mention. i'd prefer the matrix over the corolla, but you can't go wrong with either or.

on the insurance side, you'll save yourself some coin compared to a civic or mazda 3 sport

+1

i've had one for a few years now. great car. it's seems like a small hatchback, but it's really a wagon. it doesn't really look like one, but it is bigger than the jetta wagon on the inside.
great on gas, cheap to fix, very reliable. love it.

Honda's are good too. My dad just bought a Civic 3 years ago(used). Now it's been 11-12 years since the car was made and there is nothing wrong with it. It's still perfect

I've had a Matrix for a few years and have over 90,000 clicks on it, and it's been very reliable, and a great car to drive as well. When I was doing research I found that maintenance was much cheaper than the Mazda per year.

If you really like efficiency - check out the Yaris. It is unbelievable. I rented one in BC and honestly thought the fuel gauge was broken. 3 hours into a drive in the mountains and the gauge finally moved a tick. It doesn't have the same feel as the Matrix, but it's not bad either.

How come (just asking)?

A friend of mine and her husband just got a 5 door Yaris and they are in heaven.

It just doesn't have the smooth control, suspension, and get up and go - but don't get me wrong, if I didn't need the little bit extra room I'd opt for the Yaris myself.

I agree that it doesn't have the get up and go, but we still love it. My husband and I bought a 5-door Yaris in September. It's so pretty.

The Mazda 3 is out of the running. Moreso because they made some minor changes to it for 09 and it looks like they just didn't care. You have to gear up very quickly in the manual and you're losing fuel efficiency and the auto gets stuck in gears far too often.

The VW Rabbit is a ridiculously fun machine to drive. The fact that it's made in Germany is a huge freaking plus right now. It's big knock is it's a 2.5 L engine.

I'm going to test drive the Matrix today. I'm driving a 09 Corolla right now for my rental and there is no road noise whatsoever which is amazing. I'm a hatchback type of guy though and I've always loved the Matrix. Looks like it'll go between the Matrix/Corolla and the Rabbit.

I hated the Matrix.

Test drove one a while back and it felt very cramped.
