There's something about Sonny's in Brampton. The Banquet Burger is a classic. You can almost feel your heart miss the odd beat and then slap itself to get back into gear. You also have to love that it's right in hooker central, you can almost hear the moaning over at the (former Flowertown Inn) HoJo. Any place that has the "Big Boy" dude in its logo has to be good, doesn't it?

The most memorable burger I've ever had was in Boston at The Parker House Hotel. It was a Bison burger with a cucumber wasabi sauce on it.

I think I had a Stem Burger once on Queen W that was pretty tasty too.

Unfortunately, I also remember my worst burger. Indianapolis, at some joint downtown (can't remember that), some parts were burnt, other parts were cold. Gross. It was that horrible feeling when you see something gross and then your stomach starts to immediately react to what you just saw. Worst part is that I was about to start in net against the LA Little Kings and I thought I was going to barf on the ice.

Wendy's Steakhouse Double Melt was the greatest hamburger ever.

I also like Weber's, Lick's and a place in Toronto out on the Queensway called Acme.

The BlogTO website has a lot of 'Best .... in Toronto' write-ups and I'd like to hit every place they mention in their search for Toronto's best burger. http://www.blogto.com/toronto/the_be...er_in_toronto/

There's also a new poutine-only place called Smoke's Poutinerie, which I hear is the cat's ass. Bacon poutine!

my worst burger was a pile of shit between two bricks from some Jack in the Box at 3AM in Riverside, California. I remember the first bite and the ensuing choking. The lettuce was greasy, almost steamed, and there was way too much ketchup. The buns were stale and the meat was well, ummm, I'm not sure that was even meat. I don't remember what I was thinking going there, maybe that a dude wearing a snowman's head on the sign might mean there's something eccentric going on with the food.

Ahhh... great topic...

Here are some of my faves - not in any particular order....

1. Johnny's (Victoria Park-Sheppard) - For obvious reasons - shit.. even the bread tastes good. ANd the Greek dudes in there are so fuckin surly..think almost like Soup Nazi in the Seinfeld episode - it's a total Scarborough institution.

2. Yellow Griffin (Runnymede-Bloor) - There are over 35 different varieties of burgers here - and on any meat you wanted. I used to take my ex here all the time - she HATED it. Well, hate is a strong word - she disliked it.. or she didn't like it as much as I did.

3. Dangerous Dan's (Broadview-Queen) - It's a real dive, but it's the most artery clogging food I've ever had - I mean, a 24 oz burger with a quarter pound of bacon, a quarter pound of cheese and 2 fried eggs can't be that good for your ticker.

4. Burger Shack (Eglinton just west of Yonge).. greasy.. in the same mold as Johnny's but not as good.

5. Gilligan's (in Windsor) - Discovered this place about 4 years ago and everytime I go down there, I HAVE to eat at this place. I was there a month and a half ago, I got this surf and turf burger - it was fried calamari on my 3/4 pound burger. Yummy. The secret sauce on it tastes like a mix of barbecue sauce and thousand island dressing. If you're in the Windsor area, this is a MUST.

Just a step down are...

5. South Street Burger (Several across Toronto) - Just because some of the toppings are really interesting...

6. Wimpy's (several across Toronto) - the actual burger patty is bigger than the bun.

anyone ever try those places?
Oh goodness, Checker's is REALLY greasy.. like REALLY greasy.. so is Sonic - but it's soooooo delicious.

If you go back to the States, try Red Robin - their burgers are fantastic.
Even White Castle is half decent just because their burgers are steamed. Just don't eat the sack of 30.. ugh.

Oh, for real. If there's a lineup (and in most cases, there is) and you don't know what you want when you get to the front, you get kicked out. I've seen it.

I should mention that the best burger I ever had was at Fatso's at Bathurst/St. Clair..... It was a sad sad day when that place shut down.

Honourable mention to a little place in the lobby of the Le Parker Meridien Hotel in Manhattan.

The combo of Fatso's and then Dutch Dreams around the corner for ice cream was unbeatable.

I agree. We went to Red Robin when we were in Seattle for a conference last year and it was so yummy!
