Default Burby.

Did anyone play as a kid?

I don't want to describe because those who know what I'm talking about already know. Apparently Toronto has a league and the "sport" has its origins in the city.

Early 30's now....and I am leaving work to go play a game of Burby. Hoping the box still exists in the ole stomping grounds.

If not does anyone know where there is a good burby box in the city?

Life is good.

no idea what you're talking about.

Which is weird because we're the same age. Maybe this is just a scarborough thing?

Just checked Facebook...

Quote:
What is Burby? - A game believed to have its roots in Toronto in the late 70's and early 80's. Spun off from baseball and closely related to the American game of stickball. The name 'burby' may be derived from the fact that it is a sport born out of the suburbs.

We welcome comments and insight from fans and players of the game. Please feel free to inquire about general rules and information regarding the world's greatest pastime, Burby.

Those were good times. Best if you could find a school with a little bit of grass.

Honestly I cant recall seeing that at Berner Trail or Emily Carr PS. But when I visit my cousins in Markham I see kids playing baseball using a box on the bricks as the strike zone. I dont know if thats what you're talking about

Yep. That's it. Go to any school in Hamilton, well older school, and you'll see them painted on.

Awesome times. It's like pick up baseball.

yeah if that's what burby is, then we used to do that is Mississauga. We called it 'baseball.'

School yard sports or games were fun as hell. Who remembers 'red ass'? Or handball?

red ass was awesome, especially after rain. I remember teacher's would freak out over using the term 'red ass' so we had to use 'handball'. so dumb.

red ass is a great game, we just called it "red-a" infront of teachers.

handball is a fun game too but red ass is better
