I stated my opinion. The sliding feature wasn't a turn off at first, I progressively began to hate it. It reminded me of my first phone, which I had when I was 18 (hence the reason i began to find is childish). The Iphone4 is better if you're looking for a touch-screen cell. That's my opinion, I am not suggesting you buy an iphone, just explaining WHY the Torch's touch-screen feature is redundant.

I hate that everyone is such a fuckin' phone snob.

It's a PHONE.

iPhone people who mock Blackberry ppl, vice versa.... it's idiotic. And it's everywhere. I'm so tired of it.

Allow me to repeat - IT'S A PHONE!

I agree, to be honest i don't mind the Blackberry. It's good for what i need, and now that the browsers been fixed, i use BBM & text. That's all i need the phone for. I prefer the iphone but really if i wanted one that bad i'd get one of my own. Instead i don't have my own personal cell phone, just use my work phone.

My last personal phone was a Razor.

It's not a phone really anymore is it? It's a small laptop, and if you're paying 600$ for a smart-phone you should get the best value out of your money no? My opinion has nothing to do with snobbery, it derives from 15 years working in technology.

Blackberry is old technology that uses very expensive networking infrastructure to operate on. BB was a big thing but they've fallen behind. Think about it, all their current commercials are selling the phone based on the premise that if you want to talk to your friends and colleagues that currently have BB's you will have to buy one too for BBM. Sad.

Iphone is proprietary and IMO that's never a good thing because ultimately you're screwed into buying apple everything to go with it and they maintain a lot of control over what apps become available and thus dont' encourage enough people to contribute to the community.

Android is universal open-source, multiplatform and therefore cheaper and inspires average people to create. Sure you get some crap in the market but you also get a lot of really creative stuff and you can buy almost any brand of phone to run it.

Anyways, if you have to get a BB for work...and they're paying...congrats, I think the Torch is their best offering right now...but for those that don't, don't fall for the IPhone marketting machine, look at other options too

^agreed^

everytime i see one of the new BB commercials i find myself snickering...so obvious that they are shooting for a chunk of the iPhone (and Droid) market...trying to look young and cool...for years the BB has had a "business" feel to it and that's finally starting to come back and bite them in the ass

don't get me wrong, there are issues with the iPhone as well...but i have to disagree with you about the apps...sure, Apple controls the apps, but the sheer variety is unbelievable...in fact i'd say it's mindboggling what you can do with this phone

as far as Jeffb's initial question goes...it sucks that you have to get a BB because like SWAN has already stated, it's old technology...my advice would be to get the most expensive BB your company will allow (if they are paying for it)

There are, but the gap is closing.

For me it's principle. It's like IBM computers vs 'clones' in the 90's. Microsoft vs the world... proprietary systems aren't good for business. It's an attempt at a monopoly that Android fortunately appeared in time to fight. Iphones are definitely cool but you're stuck with their hardware, and their accessories... when I was considering a phone I definitely considered the Iphone 3 but it's camera didn't meet my needs and so I went with Android. There are literally 100's of phones you can buy to run Android and a lot of the chargers, cases and other accessories are generic and therefore cheap. The apps are open source so absolutely anyone can write them and post them in the market. Even the OS is open so there are 1000's of users out there who've written different themes and even OS upgrades for their phones. It's a remarkable community to be a part of if that's your thing.

and imho, that can only be a good thing for the consumer

competition forces these companies to continue to be creative and push the limits...in the end, the buyer is the winner because of it

For now.

3-4 years ago Blackberry was the most coveted phone out there, then the iphone came out and now the last 2-3yrs it was on top. Now Android is supposedly the best technology out there. There is so much competition and nothing stays on top for long and it's always a catch up game for all the phone companies running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to out do each other.

I'm looking for my dads Motorola flip phone from 1996. I'll post a pic if I find it.

Comparing it side by side to my old Razor.

I liked those Razors. They were fun to flip - just the thumb. Kuh-chaw!
