not good
Real Time with Bill Maher? more like Colbert and Stewart than a scripted TV show. I don't get HBO and isn't the show based on current events? so by the time I watch it won't be as relevant
I'll see what True Blood is about

are 'Breaking Bad', 'Rescue Me', 'In Treatment' any good?

Belsius 08-16-2009 09:00 AM

The Flight of the Conchords

Belsius 08-16-2009 09:01 AM

Watch Jon Stewart on their website. I do it everyday.

I liked In treatment but it's already been cancelled

Oh you have comedy central.

Quote:

Flight of the Conchords is a Grammy Award-winning New Zealand comedy duo composed of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. Billing themselves as "Formerly New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo",[1] the group uses a combination of witty observation, characterisation and acoustic folk guitars. The duo's comedy and music became the basis of a BBC radio series and then an American television series, which premiered in 2007, also called Flight of the Conchords.

They were named Best Alternative Comedy Act at the 2005 US Comedy Arts Festival and Best Newcomer at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and they received a nomination for the Perrier Comedy Award at the 2003 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The duo's live performances have gained them a worldwide cult following.[2]

This is their stand up:

The one before is their show.

Belsius 08-16-2009 09:21 AM

This is what the show is about:

Quote:

The fictional series revolves around the pair as they try to achieve success as a band in New York City and try to develop an American fan base. The regular cast includes fellow comedians Rhys Darby as Murray, Arj Barker as Dave, Kristen Schaal as their excessively devoted and obsessed fan Mel, David Costabile as Doug, Mel's tolerant husband, and Eugene Mirman as Eugene, their landlord. This show also features many other comedians in guest starring roles. Their songs are woven into the plot of each episode. The first season consisted of 12 episodes.

The second season of Flight of the Conchords started on HBO on January 18, 2009. The first episode of the second season premiered online on Funny or Die a few weeks early on December 17, 2008.[16] On December 21, the first episode of Flight of the Conchords, season two, became available for online viewing on a variety of additional platforms including HBO.com, iTunes and HBO's YouTube channel.[17] The second season consisted of 10 episodes.

Surprisingly, given their success outside of New Zealand, Bret and Jemaine are rumoured to have had project proposals continually denied funding by New Zealand public television. As Brannavan Gnanalingam notes in The Lumiere Reader, rumour has it that NZ TV3 denied funding because Bret and Jemaine's humour was deemed "too Wellington", meaning their humour would not work with the average New Zealander outside the nation's capital.[18]

Flight of the Concords is a very funny show. The Office, at least its earlier episodes, was comedic gold. Top Gear is a pretty neat show too.

Snooch 08-16-2009 09:55 AM

Heroes
True Blood

Claudius 08-16-2009 10:13 AM

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Colbert Report
Lost
Daily Show
The Office

That's all I really need.

Windex 08-16-2009 10:18 AM

looks like 'True Blood' and 'Flight of the Concord' are popular

I tend to not watch network TV shows
seen some episodes of The Office
does Heroes have a good storyline or is just another popular teen show with a poor plot?

Dark Knight 08-16-2009 10:18 AM

Raptors Games!!!!! :yeah: lol, I know, I'm a fanboy.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is great
only seen a couple seasons so I need to get more

not a big fan of Lost
doesn't help that I watch random episodes

Entourage, Dexter, and breaking bad are my top 3 right now, you gotta check out breaking bad when u get the chance, great acting, great story and great directing. I used to watch a lot of curb your enthusiasm back when I had HBO on fta but now that I don't, I download a few episodes sometimes, can't wait for the Seinfeld reunion on the show.

LX 08-16-2009 12:15 PM

I'm loving the True Blood. I like Big Love and Dexter as well. And Claudius' picks minus lost are about it for me.

TORaptor4Ever 08-16-2009 12:43 PM

The Wire

Battlestar Gallactica

Best written shows that I've ever seen. Period.

Both series are done and available on DVD.

bjjs 08-16-2009 12:57 PM

No one else watches Mad Men?

It really is the best show on television.

Season 3 starts tonight.

Season 2 is on on ROD, season 1 was, but I think it's gone now.

Durham County and True Blood are the only other two I have on the go right now.

I watch Entourage for some reason as well, although it's been the same thing now for how many seasons? It's like watching the same episode over and over.

Big Love, Dexter, also great. The Pacific will be awesome as well when that airs.

Wiseguy 08-16-2009 02:25 PM

Yep. I watched it too. Pretty good.

Entourage is also always good for a laugh... if only for Ari Gold. lol.

I would be surprised if you didn't like it. I recommend starting at season1 and watching from the beginning.

I really enjoy Holmes on Homes. If anyone is thinking of buying, pick up his book for like 30 bucks. Solid read, from a solid guy who just wants contractors to do the job properly.

I think I've watched every episode of Property virgins six or seven times now, but get really disinterested in the US episodes. House Hunters is good for that or My First Place. Big City Broker is good as well. Fuck it, alot of the times I have HGTV on and have watched all the shows in some capacity.

Ball Don't Lie 08-16-2009 09:58 PM

My all time favorites:

The Wire
Dexter
24(would have been 2nd if they made the last 3 seasons like the first few seasons)
Criminal Minds
Law and Order
first 2 seasons of Family Guy were way up there too.

LX 08-16-2009 10:22 PM

I was a slut for HGTV for the longest time myself. I love Holmes, but man he gives me an ulcer. I get way too conscious of all the ways my home might be about to betray me. If only I could have him around to reassure me, or punch out the knobs that worked on my place. But instead of hoping for that, or any other kind of home improvement, I've just let myself accept my surroundings. Yeah - ok - I'm lazy. But better to be lazy not thinking about doing shit, then being lazy and always thinking about doing shit.

Wiseguy 08-17-2009 06:15 AM

Always with his back turned to whoever he is talking to, looking over his shoulder.

lol Claudius and Jackson.

I watch a lot of HGTV as well. Holmes on Homes and Property Virgins are both great concepts for shows, but holy shit are the hosts so annoying. like really, really annoying. that Sandra woman should not be on television and Holmes just always sounds whiny.

Personally, my favorite shows are the Location, Location or relocation, relocation ones with the British couple. also, House Hunters International is pretty cool.

I watch a lot of FoodTV too.
One thin... i don't understand why they've stopped showing the original Japanese Iron Chef. That was such an awesome show. Miles and miles better than the American one (which i find pretty much unwatchable).
