My advice is start from the beginning and pay attention when you watch it. Now that it's back on and has risen my standards of television again I am not tuning back into TWD in the fall. The contrast between the two in terms of acting, plot, special effects, character development, conflict is night and day.

They also have far more budget. Two very different genres.

I wouldn't be so sure. The show started off with a much smaller budget than what it has now. Also, TWD is the most watched show on TV, so I'd imagine their budget is pretty good.

I just think that since GoT is based off of books and there is already a plot that is sound, it is a lot easier to make good episodes, whereas TWD is running itself into the ground trying to make its own plot as it goes on which keeps getting worse and worse.

TWD budget is still quite small from everything i've read. But i still like TWD so what do i know. lol

GOT looks like a much bigger budget show. Don't they even shoot in various countries too?

A Budget to be Reckoned With

When HBO announced that it was ordering a season of George R.R. Martin‘s Game of Thrones on March 2nd, the news was greeted with jubilation across fandom, on the internet and off. But the green light provided a host of new questions, such as when new cast members would be announced, when new production stills might be seen, and the like. And among them, a fairly significant question: what would the budget be?

We received answers pretty quickly. Nelson McCausland, a government minister, shared that the per-season budget was expected to be circa 30 million, equivalent to $45 million U.S. With a ten episode order, this would average at $4.5m an episode, a significant amount of money by most standards in the industry. On top of this, we had additional reports that the production was estimated to inject as much as 20m ($30m) into the economy, an interesting figure that has provided one of our own estimates regarding just what this budget means.
Game of Thrones: Features - A Budget to be Reckoned With

^ That means three years ago (when that was writen) GOT budget was 45Mil per season (US). Now TWD is on AMC, which also has Mad Men.....a show with a 10Mil per season budget. Now how much more budget do you think TWD will have than Mad Men? Even if it were double it wouldn't amount to half the budget GOT gets. And there is no way TWD gets double what Mad Men gets. TWD budget is so low that they have problems keeping their writers, which may explain some not liking this past season.

AMC has cut The Walking Dead's budget every season to free up more funds for Mad Men. It was discussed a lot after the first season. Frank Darabont was fired because he didn't agree with it, and Glen Mazzara left after season 3 because of the budget cuts. Breaking Bad's budget was cut before season 4 I believe.

Yeah, i think TWD's seasonal budget is 8Mil. GOT is nearly 6 times that as of 2010. Might be even higher by now.

finished season 3 of SOA...the season as a whole certainly wasn't as good as the first two, but the finale was one of the best episodes of the series (even if I didn't really understand what was going on)

I don't watch it regularly but I've watched half to most of season 3 of it and it's great - Downton Abbey.

Yeah, i checked out a few episodes because it was getting so much hype. I hate most of the characters, although I really want to fuck Brian Williams's daughter.

When I explained why I dislike the show to a female friend, she said "that's how women feel about a lot of guy shows". Like when we wonder how the hell anybody could stand that self-absorbed main character, Hannah, who is ugly on the inside and outside, my friend said women wonder how the hell any self-respecting woman could stand some of the guys on entourage or a show like that, where a guy like Turtle or Johnny Drama manage to get laid by hot chicks. Some guys find Johny and Turtle amusing, and some chicks find the non-stop narcissism and complaining of "Girls" amusing.

Girls is awesome.

Lena Dunham's ability to just let it all hang out.... physically and emotionally, makes for very compelling tv watching.

Anyone watching Legit on FX? It's the new Jim Jefferies' comedy, one similar to Louie in my opinion.

I love me some Jim Jefferies, so I am going to have to find time to check that one out.
