My sister-in-law has been looking forward to this (she really likes the book). Let me know if you like it and we will start watching it.

Anyone else looking forward to Mad Men starting this weekend?! Woot!

Tom Builder is a poor but honourable stonemason who lost his job as a builder because the cruel, sadistic lord William Hamleigh was turned down by young Lady Aliena when he proposed marriage, as Tom Builder was building their new home. Starving and destitute, Tom's wife Agnes dies in the forest while giving birth to their third child; Tom cannot feed the baby boy, and in his grief he leaves the child on Agnes's grave, takes his remaining two children, shy Martha and cruel Alfred, and becomes companion of Ellen and her odd, red-haired son Jack, whom Tom meets accidentally when he thinks that his whole family is going to die in the forest. Alfred immediately despises Jack, because Jack is clever and can read. Alfred's hatred becomes vengeful later on in the story. After many hardships the family settles down in Kingsbridge, where Prior Philip wants to build a cathedral. Young Jack also meets Aliena, and falls in love with her

I haven't read the book (it is a based on the book of the same name by Ken Follett), but my wife did and she liked it. Although, she is a bit leary of watching this because the book was apparently very brutal and hard to read at times.

But HBO has such a good track record with these big budget period pieces, I'm pretty stoked. Hopefully this won't get shafted the way Rome did.

The latest entry is The Pillars of the Earth, an eight-hour mini-series that debuts across Canada on Friday with a two-hour instalment on The Movie Network and Movie Central, as well as in the United States on the cable network Starz.

I think that I'm still on the fence with Trueblood... I watched the 1st and 2nd seasons and there were definitely some good parts to it (Lafayette is HILARIOUS) but most of the dialogue between Bill & Sookie makes me want to off myself. I REALLY liked the brief story about Eric's maker Godric. Too bad it was over so soon.

Never seen any of Twilight (or read any of the books).... I HAVE watched "The Vampire Diaries" though and I probably enjoy that the most out of any of the shows in that genre. I have no idea why.... I'm still trying to figure it out.

Hee! Yes, I feel the same way about Bill and Sookie. And Tara. She's a complete waste of space, in my opinion. Anything scenes Eric and Lafayette are great ... and Jason ... and Jessica and Hoyt (cute!). It's more good than bad, I think ... and there's a lot of eye candy for me.

TO, I will confess to you ... those couple of days when I was laid up with the bad morning sickness, I parked my butt on the couch and watched the entire first season of the Vampire Diaries. And I REALLY enjoyed it! Like, really.

When I was younger, I read the Vampire Diaries books. The shows I've seen were pretty good!

...but back to True Blood. Like I always say - I hate Bill and Sookie ("Sookeh is MINE!"), but I LOVE Lafayette and Eric. So much. Great show.

Oh - new werewolf dude is ok by me, too.

Cheesy 80s awesomeness. My older brother is roughly the same age as you; he watched the original series with my parents when it first aired. I was introduced to the series via VHS rentals. Sometime last winter, I watched the whole series again after discovering that a user had posted it on Youtube. The cheesy special effects had me in stiches.

The interesting thing is, if you watch the original series as an adult, it's more than just a goofy series about invading Aliens. The original series attempted to address some serious contemporary and historical issues.

Tara should be killed off.
