Raptors Best music for studying.

I need some more schoolin', but I'm having a hard time getting into it. Distracted, restless, yada-yada. I am not one who studies in silence.

Sometimes I feel like quieter stuff and sometimes I am into more upbeat, in which case I find myself grinding my teeth?? (don't know why) Any ideas for tunes?

i was never one to really listen to tunes while studying, but if i did it was classical. a cliche, but it just set the right tone for me. i liked the tortelier bach cello suites a lot.

That's not a bad idea, and I actually used to think she was kinda hot....bonus.

And for some reason, the second anyone mentions Sade's music, I think of Seal's music. Same era?

YouTube - Paul Tortelier plays Bach - Sarabande (vaimusic.com)
Oooh....I can't say I mind classical, but I might shed a tear and chuck a laptop through a window with that one.

i read somewhere that classical music is the only music that was proven to actually help people when they study.

.... but if you want my personal recommendation, i'd go with Motorhead.

I usually just turn on ESPN radio and catch bits and pieces of the jibble jabble when I'm doing homework. Or, I'll throw in an old tape. Yes..tape.

This is how we roll over here

if you can't take the heavier stuff, Kitaro is my favorite light, fru-frooey music.

i always like to listen to some reggae when i study, classical doesn't really do much for me and it's the only other music that doesn't completely take me away from my work.

It could also be because I do the majority of my work stoned so take it with a grain of salt. I end up doing alright though so maybe there's a positive correlation there. Weed + Reggae = high marks.

I like that band. I posted some of their shit in the music thread. I rarely listen to music while studying, but I do use it if I need to calm down for something like an exam.

This is one of my favourite songs...

Post-Rock, classical, and some classic rock. Yes!, Steely Dan, The Who, Rush,
Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Menomena, Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut, Sigur Rós, Bartok, JSB, Holst, Bernstein, on and on. Get something that puts you in the mood but doesn't distract you too much.

What a diverse list! Many I have never even heard of.

I'm thinking Blowfly will probably make you forget what you just studied.

Never heard of Kitaro, sounds like Asian ABBA, not bad.

Reggae's good, but only in short spurts.

Explosions in the Sky is nice.

From Ligeia's list, I recognized 5 bands out of all of those. I'll have to roll up my sleeves and sample. Study music to study by?

You guys are good!

And that is just it....studying sucks when you are not up to it, so if you can get something going on in the background that you like, but doesn't distract you, you can keep at it longer.
