Best Jimi Hendrix album?

1 Electric Ladyland

2 Band of Gypsys

3 Axis

4 Are you experienced

that's my order right now.

On another day or depending which one i'm listening to at the time the order changes. Still DAMN they're all so good. The man was a genius.

'are you experienced' - the song specifically - was so far ahead of its time. if that came out now, it would still be ahead of its time.

i can't rank the albums. all amazing. i can get annoyed by the jammy-ness of band of gypsies at times, but it also has some of his best recorded work.

i wish he had the chance to complete 'first rays of the new rising sun', or whatever 'valleys of neptune' would have been.

so it goes.

are you experienced seems to lack a flow that the other albums have. for me at least. I find it plays a lot like a greatest hits compilation. I love most of the songs on their own more than as a collection.

Band of gyspys has 2 of my favorite songs in machine gun and who knows. I also love the buddy Miles song. For some reason i just prefer BOG as a band over the experience.

I like the Montery Festival film the best.

The first internet search I ever did was "Jimi Hendrix"

I go through periods when I stop and just listen to a bunch of his stuff.

Jimi in Toronto. He got booked at Pearson and was released 4 hours before his concert at MLG at 100 bucks bail.

If someone wants to watch a good movie about jimi Hendrix, there's an awesome documentary made just a few years after he died called "a film about Jimi Hendrix". I actually watched the whole thing on youtube (i can post the link when i get home).

It's really awesome. It's got cool interviews too from a lot of people really close to his life. Lots of great little stories too, like one told by his old girlfriend and how he wouldn't let her go to the bathroom because she would miss a great part of a bob dylan song.

I saw this in a crappy theater in Montreal in 1983. It was awesome. About 20 others in there.

They're all great, but I'd pick Axis if I had to choose just one to take to a desert island.
