Best Gaming Console of All-Time

as inspired by the PS3 vs. Xbox thread...

m5racer 02-22-2011 03:05 PM

SNES for me, grew up with that shit....and Mario was, and still is so much fun

For me, the greatest system is one that stands the test of time. SNES has done this beucase people (inculding myself) still crack those great 16bit games!

No love for the dreamcast!! That shit was gamecube, xbox, and ps2, but two years before!

i look at the two most influential games of all time (IMO) - the original mario bros. and zelda ocarina of time. that's evidence enough for me to say NES or the N64. between the two i'd have to go with NES because it blazed the trail.

I would say ps2.

I'm basing this on the tremendous jump it took from the prior wave of gaming consoles. That and quality of games and pure lasting power. I still play some ps2 games and they are just as good if not better than next gen console games.

Dreamcast not being present, makes this poll stupid.

fancylad 02-22-2011 03:09 PM

btw how can ps1 and ps2 be the same option? They are two completely different consoles that work on completely different levels.

PS2 was a pretty epic console. Whereas some systems will specialize in certain genres, PS2 did every genre well, very well. I actually sometimes forget there was even a PS1.

The most influential game of all time would definitely have to be Golden Eye for N64. not only was it crack injected, but all first person shooters still use its framework today

I think you're discounting what the original Doom did for FPS.

As far as 3D games go, I can confidently say that Zelda: OoT has had the greatest impact there. No game before OoT came close to harmonizing an amazing story, combat, and puzzles quite like OoT did.

my parents wouldn't buy me a 64 so I rocked the snes for many years. I played a lot of super rbi, hangtime, and uniracers.

Sega Genesis was the first system I had and it was so much fun playing that. I would play for so long. I would say PS2 after that. The good ol' days :P

Dreamcast

Really? You're gonna say Goldeneye was the most influential game of all time?

I think thought said it best: Doom was a cultural icon on the PC platform. Quake and even Half-Life have had greater influences.

As for system, I'll say N64.

Why? They have a collection of amazing games (Mario 64, MarioKart 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, NHL 99, Donkey Kong 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina or Time).

The other big thing, they made multi-player gaming easy. 4 players in one room with 4 controllers. It was the perfect party system.

PS2 is a close second, just simply because it had an amazing game library that I still play to this day.

It would be the SNES for me. There are just so many great games on it that I can name off of the top of my head.

Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, Seiken Densetsu 3, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mario Kart.... The SNES was the system that drained the most hours out of my life compared to any other system.

No Pong?!?!?!

Yes...I am old enough...I had Pong.

Voted for NES...it changed everything.

js12 02-22-2011 10:19 PM

What about PC?

Acie 02-22-2011 10:19 PM

ColecoVision

:( sorry they only let me put up 10 options...

Dreamcast was one of my favorites.

it really was the precursor to the gaming we partake in now...

Nites 02-23-2011 06:02 AM

I went from SNES-->Sega Genesis-->N64-->PS2-->PS3

I have to hand it to the N64. Zelda Ocarino of Time, Golden Eye, Mario 64, SuperSmash Bros, WWF No Mercy, Donkey Kong Country, Kobe Bryant NBA Courtside, Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Party...

Chiggmo 02-23-2011 06:47 AM

Dreamcast... but for the sake of voteing, NES
