I was a big fan of their old stuff. Musically, I'm all over the map, preferring "punk revival", but I grew up listening to a lot of rap (when it was good), and a lot of Beastie Boys back in the day.

I actually got a chance to see them live in Seattle about 10 years ago. My gf at the time wanted to go, and I was like... "meh". I didn't know about bands that had "made it" and lost the small feel of a show, but I decided to go anyways.

I was NOT disappointed. They started the show with Mix Master Mike walking through the bowels of the arena - follow cam-like, and he came out and started scratching. The Beastie Boys came out, and ROCKED it, they started with a rap part, and then disappeared to let MMM scratch for a while longer. They then came out on this float kind of thing (like for a parade), and did a whole set (half-hourish) of just their instrumentals. As the float left the stage, they let MMM do some more of his thing, and then came back and did another rap/their songs where they play their instruments.

It was a really good show, and I'm glad I got a chance to see them live.

Mix Master Mike is amazing at what he does.

Same thing with Mario Caldato jr.

The beasties definitely have a hell of a team giving them a hand.

Mix Master Mike actually just played a month or two ago on the deck of Canada Olympic Park (our little ski hill in Calgary), and it was pretty damn cool.

There was probably only room for 100-200, but he was fenced off in the middle and had everybody else around him and/or standing on picnic tables...and it was free. I remember he used to do free shows all of the time up in Whistler too.

Not a fan of the Beastie Boys. I always found them to be kinda hokey. I do love Sabotage though.
