Thanks for the tips guys... but can you generalize it more for people that don't like those foods? (i.e. amount of calories, ratio of fat/carb/protein)? I'm never going to like fish or brocoli or eating lots of vegetables...so to switch to a diet that makes me eat foods I don't like isn't going to have a great chance for success

Right now I'm 6'5" and about 220....mostly lean except for around the midsection. I've found different websites that advise I need about 3300 cals a day to maintain my weight...when I eat that much I put on. My doctor is suggesting 2500... but that's just his opinion...we didn't do any testing or anything 'scientific' to get to that number lol

Lol.... I can't judge buddy... because I'm doing the same thing! Never used to keep a log but I've been doing it since I've gone back to the gym.

Sounds about right.... if you're putting on weight with 3300 then yeah I'd try 2500 and see how that goes for you.

Get your hands on a good protein shake... that helps a lot.... but I'm not gonna lie.. you're going to have to make SOME sacrifices if you want to slim down. Getting cut isn't easy... if it was then everyone would be ripped lol.

Have you ever seen the website Bodybuilding.com - The Future Of Bodybuilding! Huge Bodybuilding Site. ? A LOT of great info there. You should check out those forums for some tips. I'm on there all the time now lol.

I'm a believer in the after workout burger and fries, but without the workout.

- egg whites
- protein shakes
- cheese
- almonds
- broccoli
- turkey sandwiches
- protein bars
- sweet potatoes

Those are the staples.... I'd be lying if I said that I didn't cheat every once in a while with some pizza or a Subway Sub.... and the occasional beer.

I know that when people are trying to cut they wake up and run before breakfast... you could try that in addition to eating a bit cleaner.

Getting your nutrition right is 80% of the battle (whether you're gaining or cutting). Try to stay away from processed foods as much as much as you can... or limit those things that you just HAVE to have (chicken fingers) to one "cheat day" to keep you sane.

Like I said before... I'm sure that Insider has more tips than me.... I'm sure he'll chime in soon.
you got it covered ToRap.
you guys have all mentioned the most important aspects... if i could add anything it would be the simplest thing in the world (but turns out to be one of the most difficult); water.

thats all. water.

dont drink anything else (other than your protein shakes), but water.
no pop, no juice, especially no alcolhol (which is almost impossible if you go out with buddies).
i read somewhere that if a person removes pop from their diet, they will lose 15 pounds over a year.... and if they cut out juice, and only drink water, that number increases to 20 pounds.
imagine that... it sounds so easy, right? but its so difficult. water is so boring.
but try it, you'll see.

the benefits of water are insane... google it.
from dieting to digesting to cleaning out your system... if you drink a lot of water, you will see so many benefits over the long term.

So true. A lot of people don't realize how much sugar (and other crap) they ingest on a daily basis from "energy drinks" and pop.... it's crazy.

Water can kind of suck but you can buy flavoured packets to make it taste better (I think Crystal Light makes them?) or you can just do what I do and add a couple of squirts of lemon/lime juice to each glass. That works for me.

@ SWAN... I found a thread on BB.com that would probably help answer some questions for ya.... take a read of the first page or so and hopefully that'll help some.

How to lose fat for Noobs - Part II - Bodybuilding.com Forums

@ thought... I love bananas (no homo!). I eat one every morning with my vitamins (about 1 hr after breakfast) and I make sure to put one in my postworkout shake every evening as well. From what I've heard the potassium in bananas helps to alleviate muscle cramping after hard lifting. Makes the shakes taste better too.

Thanks guys...been perusing the BB site and it is solid. Seems a consistant 500 cal deficit with heavy lifting focusing on the big areas is the way to go. I'll start with 2500 cal and see what happens... adding a protein shake for my mid morning snack.

I already drink about 3 liters of water a day and everything else I drink is zero cal. Diet pop and crystal light make up the other drinks. I learned a long time ago it's no fun using up calories with drink. Even when I drink alcohol it's usually rum and diet.

Lol... it's not easy at all (going out sober when your friends are getting blasted)... thankfully I'm still trying to put on some mass so I haven't had to worry THAT much about it. As a rule I hardly drink as it is though. I may have the occasional glas of red wine at home but that's it. When I DO go out I stick to beer (which I don't really like) so it lasts longer and I drink less. 3 or 4 is usually what I top out at.... not gonna kill you if you only do that every so often.

Now if you're young(er) and in University where drinking is a daily occurence? THEN it's facking HARD. lol.

Stopped drinking coke and pop for a 2 weeks now, it's crazy how much sure is in coke, 38grams which is about 9 teaspoons or something, that's fcked up.

But what's wrong with juice? haven't gotten used to the whey protein yet so i've been drinking a lot of V8 Fusion and Orange Juice when i'm not drinking water.

there's sugar in juice. there aren't really that many artificially sweetened "juices" anymore, but too much natural sugar still isn't healthy.
