heres a cool review:
Omohide.com Planetes Review

Quote:
I’ve often claimed (with some degree of hyperbole) that Planetes is one of the best kept secrets of anime. While it does not enjoy the same level of awareness and popularity as some of its monumental brothers in the same genre, tucked within this 26-episode series is one of the most satisfying character-oriented shows you will find. This is an important aspect of Planetes – the show is about characters, unlike sci-fi shows which derive their drama from the large scale of their intergalactic conflicts or technology. In fact, when larger conflicts do erupt towards the second half of the series, they manifest directly in a smaller scale between members of the cast familiar to us. Though the vision of the future in Planetes is quite interesting on its own and a great attempt is made at realism, the show is a human drama first (though with plenty of lighter moments in the first half). It is primarily for this reason that I feel the need to convince others to try the show – while I can understand that some people will dislike sci-fi shows, the approach that Planetes takes has a far broader appeal, if given the chance.

a line from "Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance"

Quote:
Speaker: I Would Rather have a chaotic world tainted by man.

Gendo Ikari: Chaos is merely a human impression. The world is composed entirely of harmony and order.

Speaker: So it is the human Heart that throws the world into confusion.

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day

The story line, simply put, is just a group of teenagers dealing with the loss of their childhood friend and trying to mature and move on without her. The voice actors and actresses are a group of very talented people, especially emotional scenes during the series I couldn't help notice the amazing quality of their performance.

The series is only 11 episodes, so it's quite short, and the shorter the series is, the more quality the producers put into it. The producers are also a very popular animation studio (A-1 Pictures) that produced other quality anime such as Working!! and Fairy Tale, as well as the PS3 video game Valkyria Chronicles. I love the soundtrack, both the opening and ending songs of each episodes (plus the ending song is sung by the voice actresses, which I found very cool) and the slow piano pieces played during scenes of melancholy.

I'm not very good at making reviews, but just check it out if you are interested, it's short and I'm hope anyone that's looking for a down to earth, slice of life type of show, Ano Hana is one I strongly recommend.

Plus the ending of this series made me very emotional. But that's not important.

Been watching a really cool anime called Gantz.

If you haven't seen it, you should, its got it all - lots of violence, sex, action and aliens. They even made a live action movie of it Japan.

Porco Rosso

The movie was orginally meant for adults, but it's great for the whole family. I watched it with a bunch of my younger nephews and my aunts and uncles, and they all loved it. Hayao myazaki's feminism is on full display with every female character in the film, even the side characters. I'm totally showing this movie to my kids.

Summer Wars

I'm not gonna write a review, but I'll give you an equation:

Popcorn family flick + anime = This movie.

two movies that i watched recently that shocked me:

Akira

holy fuck. that is all.

Ghost in the Shell (original)

A great story that raises the questions of what makes a human being, i was expecting a robot shoot em' up but was gladly intrigued by the dialogue between the characters questioning their very existence.

This anime has only been around for 3 months and it has EXPLODED onto the scene. I'm sure many of you have already noticed it and recognize the character on my avatar.

Attack on Titan Shingeki No Kyojin

even the manga which gained immense popularity in the past few months, has had lower quality drawings in order for the volumes to be produced faster because of the demand for the series. it's an on going series and people of all ages, anime and non-anime addicts alike are raving about it, check out this picture:

Was packing for college when my mom called for my help. Ends up she and my grandma wanted to watch Attack on Titan and needed my CR password. - Imgur

the opening is fantastic and gives you an adrenaline rush, even reading the lyrics alone gets you pumped up for the series. there's just something about mankind being the underdog that makes you want to channel your anger from loss into something to fight for. The storyline itself is shrouded in mystery and the writer has ridiculous plot twists and cliff hangers that keep you thinking in the vast universe you're immersed in.

check it out guys, it's good stuff.
