Default Am I Wrong?

Okay, so here's the background story: The fax machine in my office ran out of toner for almost 2 days, so our office ordered the new toner and we just got it yesterday afternoon. I installed it at 3:30pm and a flood of faxes started coming in. Now there's only 2 people in our office right now - me and this 60-year old woman. Anyways, we kinda marvelled at the stuff pouring in and she asked if I could give her some of the work - Usually I vulture all of the work. I agreed and told her that I would give her some of it. When the faxes had been completed and sorted, I dropped off the work on her desk for her to complete when she came in this morning.

So, this morning, she asked me this particular question in regards to certain files and I thought to myself "why would she be asking me that question? It has nothing pertaining to the work I left for her". It turns out that before I came in this morning, she went to my desk and took a bunch of stuff off of it - to which she claims was unfinished work - which it wasn't. I was enraged. To me, my desk is very personal. I felt violated. I don't go to anyone's desk and take anything - that shows a lack of respect. I mean, this is not the first time this has happened. She's done it before, going to my desk, sorting through papers on my desk - she claims whatever's on my desk is work and vowed that she would come back to my desk and grab whatever she felt was work. I told her that it was wrong and that she had no right to do what she did and that she should not do it again. She refused. So I told her that I was going to go to her desk and take things off of it - she ran back to her desk and said "You go back to your desk, don't touch any of my stuff", so I said " No, I'm not going to return to my desk - make me". She then said she felt threatened and called security on me. All the while, she had one of my pens. I knew it was my pen because it says "Darryl" on it. When I called her out on it, she threw the pen to my desk.

Do I have the right to be angry on this issue?

I would be quite upset as well. you have every right, I know at the workplace no one ventures onto my desk (Well I don't think they do) And I show them the same respect. I am curious to what Security did though?

Cheers

I would've punched her in the ovaries.

A lady at work caressed my bottom today. She's kind of hot, but I still feel violated.

I'm not some piece of meat!

that's pretty akward man....

You know what... in hindsight you shouldn't have said the "make me" bit. Usually it's best to take the high road sometimes to diffuse a situation.

that being said, you should totally go to a superior and complain about the bitch co-worker of yours. Comlain complain complain!

fuck that old bag....
i dont know why these old gremlins think they can pretty much do whatever they want in the office because they feel they are older and should be respected and what not.
there is something called office courtesy... and one of the rules on that list is to never go through/interfere with a co-workers desk and its contents.
she obviously has no common sense and will never understand this.
so pretty much telling her not to touch your stuff will just go in one ear and out the other.
the best thing you can do is what you just did; become enemies and fight the bitch.
seriously. if theres one thing ive learned about the office environment is that people do things when they can get away with it or arent called out on it. seeing as how you yelled at her and got into a big production, i bet you she will think twice about messing with your shit again.
if she is stupid enough to do it for a third time, make a bigger stink and just go straight to her desk and do the exact same thing to her, and take work from her file.
that will teach that old bag...
trust me, if she hates your guts, she wont want anything to do with you and wont bug you again. and its a win-win situation because you wont have to deal with her shit and wont have to have meaningless fake conversations with her everyday.

fuckin old bag!

1) Talk to your superior about the situation just so he has a heads-up in case things escalate.

2) Leave nothing on your desk. Put it all in your drawers. If you have one that locks, that's even better.

If the bitch goes through your desk then you have grounds for discipline.

agreed.
but do not complain to your supervisor. be the bigger man and just tell your supervisor about the issue, and that if anything else happens you will let him/her know about it.
dont be one of those whiny complaining employees, because those employees dont get any respect from managers.

In my earlier post i said to complain. Just to clarify i didn't mean it to be whiny. By 'complain' i just meant to inform the superior of what went down and how it went down.

So, here's the aftermath... My boss is on vacation for the month of August, so they had an acting manager come in to deal with everything - the poor woman. And you can tell she knew I was in the right. Even the Security Officers came by later on and laughed about the whole situation and complained how my co-worker blew everything out of proportion.

The best part was this - after all of this happened, once the acting manager and security officers left, this co-worker of mine kept going on about how a horrible person I was, how I don't have respect for myself, how I should be embarassed about how I was acting and so on, just a barrage of personal attacks. I repsonded with "yup", "you're right", "That's good", "That's awesome" whenever she said something about me to me, to the point where she pretty much blew her top and had to leave the office all upset. I haven't seen much of her since, she's been in and out of here.

I think by her calling security, it was the best thing that ever happened because now there's some real light being shed on this. I never complained about her to the boss before about her taking things off of my desk. I just tried to deal with the matter without my boss knowing about it.

I LOVE doing that! Just makes them give up and throw a fit, some of them are hilarious when they're angry.

Update: This older woman from head office came up and actually pinned the blame on me, thus giving my co-worker a carte blanche to do whatever she wants.

I think I'm taking tomorrow off.

hell no... dont give in.
old bags like that loooove to make other people suffer... she'll get so much joy out of you not coming in tomorrow... dont let her win.
simply tell that lady to her face, very cordial, that if she takes anything from your desk again, you will do the exact same thing to her. But make sure you document EVERYTHING. and right down exactly what was taken from your desk and what you've taken from hers.

do it very respectfully, dont say a word.
if she takes some papers from your desk, walk over and take from her desk. this goes for pens, pencils, staplers... whatever.
its not being petty, its about being fair.
if you get walked over once and let it happen, it will happen forever.
