Am I screwed? (xbox question)
 
So there's a few Xbox guys on here.

So anyways, turned it on right now, and I got 3 or 4 red lights (how the fuck can you tell the difference?). Looking around the net and it doesn't look too good right now. So, am I really screwed right now?

go and buy an acrade. 199. you already have wireless controlers and use ur current harddrive

Ive gone through 4 xboxes.
it could be alot of problems.
ive encountered 2 of them and fixed them both.

if your xbox is making noise it could be your dvd drive.
and it can be easily fixed. theres how-to vids on youtube.
its a magnet that comes loose on units that have a hitachi dvd drive.

another could be some components could not be fully wired to the motherboard. if you want you can go inside your xbox(voiding the warranty of course) shut off the fan, run your xbox and let the solder heat up, let it cool and the components wil be connected again.
this could fry your motherboard so only let your xbox run without the fan on for around 10mins. ive done this twice. once it worked for only a couple months after and the second time its lasted 5 months and still going.

your best bet is going to the xbox website and look for instructions for exchanging yours.
i heard its lengthy process(a couple months.)
ive never done it rather i just go on kijiji or craigslist and buy cheap used ones.

If you play Xbox live a lot don't get Arcade I heard from about 5-6 hardcore Xbox gamers that Arcade isn't like regular Xbox(HDD).

Red Ring of Death... I heard you can just return it to microsoft and they'll repair it for you but... from what a few of my friends told me it could take months before you see it again.

But yeah I'd just maybe give a call to the store you bought it from and ask how you can go about replacing it (they probably won't replace it for you if the warranty is up but they might point you to the right direction), or like StresS said, go to the XBOX site.

It is most likely the ring of death. Just return it to Microsoft and if they can't fix it they will give you a new one. Same thing happened to my cousin. hMicrosoft fixed his and gave it back to him. It happened again and he bought a PS3

It probably is the red ring for death Claudius.
But NO WORRIES! You can just send it back to Microsoft, and they'll send you a new one (or a refubrished one, or just fix it up, whatever its one that works anyway) FREE of charge.

You'll just have to call them up and explain that you got the red ring of death. They'll probably make you test it out or something before you actually send it in, but this is done all on the phone. Once the party on the other line realizes its the red ring of death, they will take down some info, send you a box to put your xbox in, and you ship it out to them.

It usually takes a week or two.

Ah Claudius. I have been there myself. Don't sweat it. Just call Xbox and they will set up how you are to get another one free. it's a refurb, but hey - it'll be fine. I did this last summer and it surprisingly took pretty quick. less than 2 weeks in total. Just like Jumpman said. My refurb has been totally fine. It's a little loud, but who cares - they'll just give me another one for free if this one breaks again.

Mine was like 3 years old and wasn't registered. When i called microsoft i told them i got it as a gift and they just registered it for me over the phone.

Anyways, Microsoft actually is being really good about the whole thing.

Personally when it happened to me, i was really pissed off and highly considered getting a PS3 (as per Benzo's harsh advise at the time). However, having to buy my favorite games AND the system would end up costing something like $500+ . what for!? Just go some time without your console and get another free one.

I'm sure you are really pissed now. I was when it happened to me... you'll be alright.
