The Social network was a great film but it is so overrated it's not even funny, huge fan of David Fincher too but is it really better than: True Grit, Black Swan, 127 hours, Toy Story 3, Inception, The King's Speech or even the Town?

looks like Christopher Nolan wasn't nominated for Best Director either

Really glad they didn't follow the golden globes lead by nominating Johnny deep and Angilina for the Tourist.

Inception wasen't that great. The academy is pretty old school the are not going to reward a director who uses CGI to propel the majority of the films tension, drama, emotion, ect. If they were going to they would have given it to Camron.

I just saw "The Social Network" this past weekend and I thought it was a pretty interesting film. I'd recommend it. I've also seen "Inception" (overrated IMO) and "127 Hours" (which seemed a bit like "Castaway" to me).

I fully intend to see "The Fighter" (Christian Bale's performance looks amazing and I've heard great things about it) and I've heard decent things about "Black Swan" and "True Grit" as well.

I've seen most of them, and liked all the ones that I saw, I didn't see black swan, or the kings speech, but the rest of the movies were worth watching at the least.

My favorite out of the lot was The fighter, hope it wins too.

the last year or so i'd agree. before that for the most part i'd disagree. More and more though, there's less and less that interests me. Originality is almost completely out the window anymore, so many movies are made every year these days compared to years ago. It's harder to find the best movies anymore and this past year i'd say that i went to see 2 movies, and i probably rented less movies then in past years.

Does anyone even go to movie theaters anymore? I haven't gone to a theater for literally years. Last time i went was to see slumdog millionaire. I honestly don't see any appeal to going to the theaters. Why pay $10 or whatever to have to sit next to annoying people, listen to them crunching on their popcorn and coughing, and have to shell out another $10 if i want a snack?? forget that.

Also i just have zero interest in movies that are coming out for the first time. Like i might hear about how good they are, but i'm in no rush to see them right away. I'll wait for them to come out on DVD or even on TV. no rush. There are soooo many good films out there that i know i won't watch all the ones worth seeing in my lifetime.... so yeah: no rush. If it's good i'll try to get to it eventually.

yeah, i still go once or twice a year. i like going, but not that many movies the last few years excite me enough to go.

i don't go and see a lot of films in teh theatre, but there is definitely value in seeing them on the big screen with the full theatre sound. lots of flicks don't need this, but many are much better in that kind of venue than on a 46" hdtv.

I have a good setup at home. I've seen:

Best Picture
"Black Swan," - Head fukk. Creative. A bit over the top. Portman was great.

"The Fighter" - Very good. First Bale movie I didnt hate.

"Inception," Terribly over rated.

"The Kids Are All Right," - A bit creepy. Oscar worthy? No.

"The King's Speech," Love Geoffry Rush. Really liked this film. Especially since it is a true story.

"127 Hours," - Havnt watched it yet.

"The Social Network," - Throughly enjoyed it. Love Stephen Sonenberg Oscar? Not really.

"Toy Story 3" - I'm not 15.

"True Grit" -Watching soon

"Winter's Bone" -Watching soon

I'll try to watch the others soon. Early fav is "The Kings Speach"
