Most people already know who's going to win anyways b/c there have been so many award shows in the past couple months

I hate award shows. I occasionally suffer through one just to spend some quality time with the wife, but seriously, I hate these things.

This is very fake

I'm a huge Oscars and predicting Oscars nerd, the real time the Oscars are decided around in December, January, ish. That's when basically all the major cities have their major awards and some other large groups like the Brits and the BFCA (Broadcast Film Critics Association or something), then there's guilds, one for directors, producers, screen actors, and every other job having to do with film, plus the Globes, etc.

Point is by this stage in the race through all those indicators, there's a lot of categories locked in and if they aren't, it's at least a 2 or 3 man race. Anyways you can take it to the bank that Amy Adams is NOT, in any shape or form, winning. Milk for Editing, In Bruges for Original Screenplay, and The Reader for Adapted, are also very, very unlikely. Supporting Actress will almost surely go to Penelope Cruz but if there's a spoiler, it's Viola Davis. Adapted Screenplay is almost locked in for Slumdog... the only reason I say almost, is that the guy who's the cheif pusher of the Reader is a super dirty player who's antics have pushed some infamous upsets (like Shakespeare in Love beating Saving Private Ryan)... The Reader is like 58% at rottentomatoes this year and got in because he's that good at pushing his films. Original should go to Milk or Wall-E, In Bruges just getting a nomination is a victory. Editing is just about a sure thing for Slumdog, if it's anyone else's it's The Dark Knight or Benjamin Button's. Oh and I don't think Defiance is winning Score - nobody liked Defiance much. Should go to Slumdog, as should Song and at least one of the two sound categories. Slumdog basically took a giant crap on the competition this year, it won almost everything it possibly could, just pure domination.

You should try and convince her that all she needs to watch is the "Red Carpet" special they have before the show.

My wife watches the red carpet special, the actual show and the post coverage too. Lame. I couldn't do it this time. I spent the red carpet time drawing with the kid, then giving her a bath and just took her to bed. Now I'm hiding in the basement doing laundry.
