WWE vs. Denver Nuggets

Quote:
Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to be at the Pepsi Center in Denver next Monday night.

Problem is, so are John Cena and a bunch of wrestlers -- and they called it first.

World Wrestling Entertainment said it is booked at the arena for an episode of Monday Night Raw, the same night the Nuggets are slated to host the Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

WWE chairman Vince McMahon told The Associated Press he doesn't believe there was "any malice, just ineptness," on the part of Kroenke Sports, which owns the team and the building, but can't tolerate the company "just simply throwing us out on our ear."

Without a quick resolution, McMahon plans to send his trucks to Denver.

"That's what we intend to do," he said. "We're going to show up."

Pepsi Center officials told the ABC television affiliate in Denver that the Nuggets game will be played as scheduled and that they are working with the WWE to reschedule or move its event.

Paul Andrews, executive vice president of Kroenke Sports Enterprises, issued a statement Monday night concerning the scheduling conflict, saying: "We are working with the WWE to resolve the situation amicably."

WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman said the organization secured the Pepsi Center last Aug. 15 and has already sold more than 10,000 tickets for the event. He says the organization expects a sellout, with tickets ranging from $20 to $70.

McMahon blamed Kroenke for not believing his team was good enough to still be playing in mid-May.

"The fans in Denver had a lot more faith in making the playoffs than the owner," he said in a phone interview from Louisville, where Raw was taking place later Monday night.

McMahon is going to milk this until the cow dies. His first quote about Kroenke not believing enough in the team to not book the WWE in May was gold though...

Quote:
"Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs, obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25th date for a potential playoff game," WWE chairman Vince McMahon said in a statement.
The WWE will probably get a payoff and get moved to the next day, and get a ton of publicity in doing so, just like McMahon wants.

Well, it kinda is his fault. The likely oversee the booking to their own facility. If in fact it was booked a year from now, and I was in his shoes, I'd be pretty pissed off too.

I don't know, they have to go live for Raw. Vince said he'd do it in the parking lot.

Vince has every right to be upset... its kinda like a venue booking your band and after you do all your promoting, a year later they ask you to move the event for another date.

Pepsi center is 100% at fault and Vince will blow this out of proportion to get tons of publicity.

I herd his interview last night and he didn't sound too upset, in fact he was making jokes about the entire ordeal.........and i do agree that the nuggets owner is at fault.....he should have thought about it before booking a wwe event.......

i'm pretty certain that the nuggets owner isn't personally involved in booking particular events... it's his fault as the head of the organization, but you'd better believe someone or some department within the company is going to get an earful over this.

true that, but he owns the nuggets & the pepsi center, so its kinda his fault for "lending" his arena to the wwe......and you kinda have to blame the owner because hes the one that is making profit from it....

So are people saying that the owner of the arena should have kept all days in May and June open just in case a playoff game might have to be played in the building?

Why can't the NBA just move its game? I think the NBA should be more lenient and move their game to another game.

Nuggets have known they would be in the conf. finals for a week
did they not tell the NBA?

I think its hard to move the game date/time
channels already set aside time for the games and wouldn't they have to shift every game by one day

I think the NBA WILL move the game one more day down. That is the only thing they can do because WWE already booked the arena.

ya but the wwe was booked months ago, and they did it because the nuggets probably didn't expect their playoff run to go this far, they thought that they would be eliminated before the west finals.....at least thats what espn is saying....

This is a stupid idea on the part of the ownership group. They would lose tonnes of money with a business plan like this.

You can't expect the ownership group to set aside every evening in May and June in anticipation for a possible playoff game that may be played in their arena. That's like the MLSE telling every show or event that wants to set up in Toronto that they cannot perform during these months because of a possible playoff game that may be played in the arena. And if it was a year like this one, then they would have lost out on the millions of dollars that they could have made if they had not booked these months off in the first place.
