Default WTF is this: New Travelling Rule

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wir...e_rule_change/

Are you kidding me?

The play Lebron originally called the crab dribble was an inside out dribble which is allowed, it wasnt an illegal dribble, what Lebron did in the play was a step skip and step where he took like 4 steps, there was no dribbble involved.

Maybe theyll legalize traveling next.

Its bad enough the guy gets bullshit foul calls and gets away with travelling too much already, but now this? No one even knows what a crab dribble even is and theyre going to 'legalize it' because Lebron made it famous?

I hope this is article is a joke.

Embarrasing, just when I started believing that they were getting tougher with all the constant travelling in the NBA. Seems like a move to make Lebron happy. Sad.

Their isn't enough information their to understand what exactly they're going to permit, and it's the author who foolishly referenced the crab dribble, not the official being quoted.

as jalen explained, the crab dribble isn't a travel, the three steps afterwards were.

but

if the nba changes it's accommodate lebron and his traveling, that's just sad.

It's funny how that extra step to the hoop is allowed more times than it should be, but that little shuffle on the perimeter is getting cracked down.

It's a hard call to make. Does the player pick the ball up a split second after he's in the air, or does he pick it up a split second before his foot leaves the floor. It's hard to focus on the hands and feet and make that judgement call when the player is going that fast. It's the hardest sport to officiate.

Yeah, travelling off the dribble is most definately very very tough to call especially in the NBA like PB said.

I have no problems with them allowing the crab dribble in the post since its already legal and not a carry, but like others have said if you allow the 3 step stepthrough then youre going to kill the league and might as well tell the world that our brand of basketball allows 3 steps now.

If they change the crab dribble then Lebron's numbers will go down to 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists.

?? How do "they" change a crab dribble?? Why would Lebron's numbers go down??

The thing that pisses me off about the whole fiasco with the "crab" dribble, is that children across the globe are going to come away thinking that

a) the crab dribble was a move invented by Lebron, and
b) that the crab dribble is some incredible move and that it is a whole lot more than what it really is.

Magic Johnson was the best crab dribbler of all time. Mark Jackson being a close second. It's just a protection dribble. Fundamentals. It's not a special move.

Lebron crab dribbled into a layup. There is no reason it can't be done without travelling, but he did travel on that particular play.

What I've read is that a two count going to the basket has always been allowed (and it has) and that they are just going look at making it officially part of the rules.

the NBA is becoming ridiculous, on a nightly basis I see everyone getting away with this and worse. It used to just be the big name players that got that extra half-step but now it seems like you can get from the 3pt line to the basket with one or no dribbles.

It's what refs refer to as a step while collecting the ball, and another step while carrying the ball, which is ultimately two steps.

Honestly - I always thought it was the rule. To say it's much worse today just isn't the case. It was probably worse twenty-five years ago. It's been an unwritten rule, and all the refs have been talking about is making it official. They are not talking about the crab dribble or star treatment. That is the media spin at work. They have made an issue out of a non-issue, which is their job I suppose.
