Turkoglu (3 votes)
Turkoglu had some big playoff moments in 2009 -- the Kobe block, double-doubles against Cleveland and Boston and daggers in Philly. But the Raptors gave $53 million to a guy who has never made an All-Star team and probably never will. He's a good piece, but remember, elite teams such as San Antonio and Orlando let him walk. There must be a reason, no?

Turkoglu (3 votes)
Turkoglu provided the best offseason intrigue when he nearly signed with Portland and then, at the eleventh hour, opted for Toronto. He gives the Raptors a sense of the dramatic on the court, too: His late-game heroics were special in the '09 playoffs. Yes, $53 million is a lot for a guy who shot only 41 percent from the floor (110th in the NBA) and 35 percent from behind the arc (95th) last season, but he'll take some pressure off Chris Bosh and maybe even persuade him to stay.
compare this to the quote above

with 10 meaningful players moving in the offseason and 7 people on the list its very likely 1 of the 10 end up on it.
Position is the key

1 in 10 sure, but 5 in 10? how can that many guys be both the best and the worst? and if they can, what validity does the process even have?

1. the purpose of meaning

One of the many things in this world that cannot be defined unless utilizing some complicate theory (ex: the meaning of life)

The purpose of meaning:
meaning is the "essence" of an object, place, person, term, action, thing, group, ideoligy, etc...
if a term is to have no essence that would render that term useless.

For sure, people are just being pre-madonnas. His contract is ugly though haha.

I don't find his contract that ugly.

Ok Jeff. Please explain to me why you think his contract isn't ugly. He is a below average defender and rebounder who is getting paid 10 Million dollars a year. Sure he can score, sometimes is clutch, but opposed to that he gives us disadvantages at times. Like the writter said 53 million to a guy who has never made the allstar team and probably never will makes on wonder.

Yes, but I think it's hard to tell because Bargnani is still young and hasn't even peeked. Well Turk is slowly on the decline.

10Mil/yr in the NBA today isn't that big a deal imo. Calderon will make 9Mil this coming season and he according to most here can't play D, yet he's looked at as a bargain. Ben Gordon who's a chucker and is one dimensional gets 11Mil/yr. And if you look around the league at the 10Mil/yr players and i'll take Turkoglu over most of them. If CV & Vareajao gets 7+Mil/yr then Turkoglu imo deserves 9-10Mil/yr.

Some of the players in the league that make 10Mil+ :

Eddie Curry
Larry Hughes
Luol Deng
Tayshaun Prince
Dunleavy
Crawford
Baron Davis
Kaman
Maggette
Redd

The fact is i'd take Turk over any of those players. The only bad thing about the contract is the term, but in 3yrs he can easily be moved with 2yrs/20Mil left on a contract if BC decides he's no longer worth the money. And it wouldn't be that hard either, so imo the contract isn't bad. He's half way to being a max player which is where he should be according to the market.

He's in the middle of the pack when it comes to salaries in the NBA (8-10Mil/yr range). I'd rather have Turk @ 10Mil/yr then CV @ 7Mil or Varajao @7+Mil/yr, or Gordon @ 11Mil/yr. The thing is 10Mil/yr is roughly the market value for a player of Turkoglu's caliber, far from a max player and far from MLE.

Wow Artest is on that list, being most likely the best defender in the league screws up a team? BAH

Turkoglu has a much better pedigree than many guys on that list making 10 million. I hope he gets another contract here. He's not going to be playing a style that wears him down to where there's nothing left once he hits 33. He's going to be much like Robert Horry for us, in terms of smart play, with much more in the way of playmaking skills. And that's easily worth the money he's getting now.
