Embiid had trouble staying on the floor, either due to injuries or foul trouble. In a total of 28 games at KU, he played fewer than 20 minutes 10 times and more than 30 minutes only three times … Questionable durability – this past season, he missed one game (Feb. 15) due to a knee injury, played in the four following games, and then was shut down for the rest of the year due to a stress fracture in his lower back. He also dealt with lower back issues as a senior in high school … Averaged a whopping 5.9 fouls per 40 minutes at KU … Lacks both offensive and defensive awareness … Averaged 4.2 turnovers per 40 minutes at KU … Defensively, he frequently focuses too much on the ball and loses track of his man … Was at times pushed off the block by bigger centers … Seems to get frustrated when not heavily involved in the offense or not making his shots. At those times, his play appears to be a bit lackadaisical …

He might have the potential of Duncan or Hakeem but his health looks to me more like Odon.

Jared Sullinger was projected to go top 5 and dropped to 21st due to back issues. Embiid's health issues are way more severe than Sullinger's.

Jared Sullinger stayed home on NBA draft day - ESPN

The foot injury is already a huge question mark and his back is problematic as well. I am not gonna guess who is gonna pick him but won't be surprised if he slides badly.

Yea but this is a legit 7 ft center, who has the potential to be great not the same as an undersized big man

True, if healthy, but whoever picks him has to be really patient and not to count on him to be an impact player for the next 1-3 years. GMs want results and they want them fast. I think out of the top 10 is pretty legit. The more I read about this type of injury the more I see how devastating it could be to his career as a pro.

I'd still take him without blinking.

If you thought teams were scared of Embiid with back questions…top 10 GM: "it would be real hard now" to draft Embiid high w/foot issues.
Ouch...

Realistically he is out of the top 10 imo. I wonder who is going to take the risk on him.

I could see Philadelphia at #10 taking a chance on him considering they have a top 3 pick as well. If they could come out of the draft with say Parker and Embiid, that might be worth the risk.

I could also see Chicago taking him if he drops to #16, he could come back slowly playing behind Noah. And if he pans out maybe they then eventually look to move Noah for an upgrade somewhere else.

Atlanta as well, they can take him hoping that it works out and they could move Horford at some point.

If I was a GM, on the hot seat, with a top 10 pick, there's no way I take Embiid. I don't care how much potential you have, you just don't know the type of player he'll be right now with the stress fracture, or how durable he'll be. Four to six month recovery time is on the conservative side. Sucks, sure, but I don't think anyone on this board would do it if their job depended on it.

I totally agree. This is a serious injury. Even before the foot injury there were question marks about his health now with this I just can't see a GM on the hot seat taking the risk. It's more likely that he will be Oden rather than Hakeem.

I highly doubt so. You got all the red flags that scream Oden.

Quote:
But it's likely not this specific injury that has teams scared; it's Embiid's string of injuries. He missed long stretches at the end of Kansas' season with a back problem, and in fact, many teams were still in the dark about that injury as he began the draft circuit. Embiid appeared to have eased the Cavaliers' concerns in a workout earlier this week, which makes this foot injury all the more confusing.
Quote:
Now, teams must decide if Embiid's issues are chronic. On the surface, the combination of a back and foot problem for a seven-footer are scary. They suggest potential issues to his core, which will affect him for years to come and are extremely difficult to fix. The more positive, but more remote possibility is that these injuries are coming from Embiid growing into his body and will lessen over time as it gets used to the basketball grind. Embiid is certainly not carrying as much weight on his foot as Yao Ming or Zydrunas Ilgauskas, for example.

Of the two, the first possibility seems more realistic based on the limited information available. Foot and back injuries are major red flags for big men especially, so it's understandable to fear the worst.

What the Spurs swoop in and nab Embiid and he leads them to multiple championships.

This is reminiscent of the Noel situation. Probable #1 overall gets serious injury that may keep him out his rookie year. This can only mean one thing.

The Cavs will take Doug McDermott #1 overall.

I won't be surprised really but I can see the 76ers taking him with their second pick at 10th.
I also read that he is most likely to miss the whole 14'-15' season not just 4-6 months...
