Wizards turned down trade for Harden

Quote:

The Washington Wizards declined a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder for James Harden, according to multiple people with knowledge of the proposed deal.

Wizards' owner Ted Leonsis was unwilling to commit to an $80 million max contract offer over five seasons to Harden.

Bradley Beal and Chris Singleton would have been traded to the Thunder in return for Harden, according to sources.

Harden was ultimately traded by Oklahoma City to the Rockets.

One Wizards official denied that Oklahoma City had offered Harden in exchange for Beal and Singleton, stating that the Thunder was also seeking an established player — which the Wizards didn’t have — in return.

“That’s not true,” the official said about the proposed deal.

that's about as dumb as drafting Greg Oden

Man imagine this news had been about us declining a Harden deal for Bargs and Ross...BC would prolly be at the stake right about now.

Apparently we enquired and they insisted on Valanciunas being involved on the deal.

Wow if that were true damn.

Raptors1995 12-12-2012 12:01 AM

If we swapped Martin for Calderon in that Lowry deal, we would have had the pieces to do a Harden trade. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always wanted Harden, even going so far last year as saying we should offer him the max contract as a RFA which the Thunder would have trouble matching.

Well that's not a big deal then. He might not be a superstar, but he's deff got potential and we'd have a huge hole at the 5 spot.

Plus would OKC even be able to develop JV? Lamb is playing under 5 mpg and they've already got Perkins, Ibaka, and Colisson.

I would have insisted on Collison in any deal. He kinda stinks this season but he'd still be ok in the short term.

Lowry / Lucas?
Harden / Ross / Anderson
Derozan / Pietrus / Kleiza
Bargnani / Davis / Acy
Amir / Collison / Gray

Not sure this is a playoff team but we'd have a better team and a go to SG. I would then try and trade Bargs/Derozan at some point for a good SF + depth.

It would have meant much more success this season and a lot less panic..... but JV is going to be very good and he's so cheap for the next 4 years. Maybe we could have done that and signed Thabeet... not bad, too bad....

If we drafted Drummond instead of Ross, that would have filled the hole at the 5 spot.

jeffb 12-12-2012 12:13 AM

What's disapointing is that this team is in need of this type of high profile star type player and when you have that chance and don't act on it you really take a major risk. You don't know what JV will end up being long term and don't know when that type of player will ever be possible again. Now i would also have to see him sign an extension here which could have been a major issue.

If this was on the table while we could still draft Drummond, I'd be surprised that we didn't... maybe OKC didn't want Drummond.....

If we had a chance to get Harden for Jose and JV and didn't take it....... Oy vey.

I love JV but you don't get a chance to get a player like Harden every day. AND he would've been locked up for 5 years!

The Wizards were even MORE insane to turn down that deal if it's true.

You don't get a chance to get a player like JV every day. It's easier getting an elite shooting guard than a center. Those are almost impossible to get. And who knows DeMar could be elite one day.

I just think Drummond was there to replace JV in our rebuild and I'd take Drummond/Harden over JV/Ross/Jose. Considering how they kept saying two rookies is too much, why didn't this go down? I realize they had invested a lot in JV, and they love good character guys.... so it makes sense in some ways, but I think it's a missed opp.

Answer right there brah lol

If we drafted Drummond and OKC took a deal centered around JV, that would be awesome. But nothing good happens to this team.
