Wizards Wizards Ready To Dump Arenas, Will Consider Buyout?

I love it when they say "One source with intimate knowledge of the team's plans" in a report.... makes me laff...

Quote:
Former Washington Times reporter John Mitchell writes for TheGrio.com that the Wizards are committed to removing Gilbert Arenas from the roster before next season.

According to a source, the team will "definitely consider buying out" Arenas' contract if he cannot be traded.

The Wizards will select John Wall with the first overall pick and, according to two league sources with knowledge of the team's future plans, will do everything in their power to make sure that Wall is never in the same locker room as Arenas.

One source with intimate knowledge of the team's plans says that Ernie Grunfeld does not want Arenas anywhere near Wall.

Grunfeld and Arenas used to share a strong relationship but they have barely spoken over the last two months.

its the same source saying all these things
I would think a buyout would be very expensive
Its like Arenas has swine flu and they dont want J Wow to catch it

If they wanted to get rid of him couldn't they have just voided his contract?

Nah. Voiding a contract is hard. If you could void a contract because of legal issues Jamaal Tinsley and Stephen Jackson would have been out of Indiana in a second. You'd need a Michael Vick type of charge to get your contract voided.

But the Raps could trade some expiring contracts and get a former All-star. Not the worst deal ever.

I really don't care about his off the court issues. If we can get him for what would appear to be a cheap package I would not hesitate. If he regains his game this is the same guy who scored 60 points in a game, can rebound from the PG position, is a 30 times better defender than the guards we have and has the swagger to make the players around him better. If we do it and it is unsuccessful get someone to plant a gun in his locker and get his contract voided

The Wizards have gotten some calls about point guard Gilbert Arenas, according to the New York Daily News.

However, Washington hasn't gotten good enough offer to consider dealing their biggest and most notorious star.

I wonder how dirty was the underwear that GMs offered for Arenas that Washington is turning them down?
Are they declining huge contracts or useless expiring players? I'm thinking former. And still Turkoglu+Banks should net us Arenas. Willing to wait until trade deadline with that offer

If the Raptors want to toss the dice likely Gilbert has the most upside.
While he is a NOT A GOOD DEFENDER.
He can push the ball up the floor and last year was likely his best giving assists.
His injury history I believe is more of a problem than his character problems.
His team mates tended not to say anything negative about him.
I think a Turk or Jose Trade with Evans or Banks and Beli is doable with Washington paying 20 to 25% of his salary.
