Wizards Wizards fire coach Flip Saunders

Quote:
After a 2-15 start, the Washington Wizards fired coach Flip Saunders, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Wizards have talked to assistant Randy Wittman about taking over as the interim head coach, but no agreement has been reached.

In his third season with the Wizards, Saunders was the victim of the Gilbert Arenas gun suspension, injuries and the ultimate breaking up of the Antawn Jamison-Caron Butler playoff core. He finished 51-111 as Wizards coach.

In 15 years as a head coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons and Washington, Saunders is 638-526.

The Wizards have been something of a sideshow this season, with the losing punctuated by the immaturity of a young team.

How much they paying Rashard Lewis again? He just hasn't been the same player since they took him off the juice.

Saunders, a former Timberwolves coach, is in the third season of a $19 million, four-year contract in Washington. The 0-7 Wizards are the only NBA team without a victory

Didn't lose as much money as I thought.... but still thats a big ticket

I remember there being talk of a new coach. probably didn't want to pay the extra money in the offseason but their play this season forced the owners hand

He's much better than Gilbert.

Hopefully they'll go on a 10 game winning streak now, and leap-frog us, and other teams in the tank wars!

kind of is actually, i don't think he got fired entirely cuz of the record, more for not controlling the team of course the players are to blame for that as well but the coach has the power. I wouldn't be surprised if he asked to get fired lol

The players are about 96% to blame in this case. Usually its a lower percentage, but in any case you cant start a season with this kind of record and keep your job unfortunately. They need to trade everyone but Wall and Vesley and start over
