Never got to see either play except on tape, but I like Russell.

When I watch him in interviews his commitment and love of basketball is inspiring.

Wilt was the most dominant offensive Center of all time and Russell the is one of the top 3 defensive.

Will take Wilt have the magazine in storage back in Canada with his 100 pt. game.

Those were the days per Raptors I cheered for the Celts.

I voted on behalf of my father who actually watched both play live. For the record, I'm not saying that means he was right. Just repping his opinion.

Way, way before my time. All I know is Bill Russell has a championship ring for every finger, Wilt doesn't.

"Wilt was too consumed with record: being the first to lead the league in assists, or to set a record for field goal percentage. He's accomplish one goal, then go to another. Russell only asked one question: 'What can I do to make us win?'
-Jerry Lucas, in Tall Tales

Quote:
"I'll say what most players feel, which is that Wilt is a loser... He is terrible in big games. He knows he is going to lose and be blamed for the loss, so he dreads it, and you can see it in his eyes; and anyone who has ever played with him will agree with me, regardless of whether they would admit publicly. When it comes down to the closing minutes of a tough game, an important game, he doesn't want the ball, he doesn't want any part of the pressure. It is at these times that greatness is determined, and Wilt doesn't have it. There is no way you can compare him to a pro like a Bill Russell or a Jerry West... these are clutch competitors."

Wow I godda read Rick Barry's book. I've read a couple on Russell and read some on Wilt. Their is no question I would pick Russell over Wilt. Russell was a gentleman, a man of honour, a man who put everyone else first on the floor. He was a true leader and him and Red are the primary reasons why the Celtics were such a dynasty back then.

That has much more to do with the teams that were around them than the players themselves.

Russell was fantastic player... but he played with about half a dozen HOFers.

Wilt didn't (until he joined the Lakers).

Paul Arizin, Tom Gola, Nate Thurmond, Hal Greer and Billy Cunningham all repectfully dispute this claim.

Did they all play with Wilt at the same time?

As good as those players may have been I can't ever recall anyone saying that there was a team in the 50s and 60s who could match the Celts' talent.
