Why Derrick Rose is NOT an MVP.

Definitely some interesting points made....

Here it is for any who want to check it out.

Why Derrick Rose Should Not Win the NBA MVP

bjjs 04-06-2012 12:37 PM

Thumbs down for that article...is it saying he shouldn't be MVP this year? (obviously) or he isn't good enough to ever be MVP? (That's ridiculous). Either way, kind of silly.

I don't think he' saying THAT... at least I hope not... because that's crazy given Rose's talent. But I do think he has a point as it relates to this year and really as it relates to Rose's career thus far.

Shouldn't an MVP at least be the clear-cut top player at his own position?

No. Who's the clear-cut best SF in the league? Lebron or Durant?

I think Rose is the best PG in the league though.

I think his point is pointless because the reason Rose isn't an MVP candidate this year is because he has simply missed to many games and hasn't been quite as good as LBJ or Durant, mosty because his team hasn't needed him to be. Has nothing to do with shooting, or steals.

Lebron.

Better passer. Better defender. Better going to the rim.

Durant's a better shooter. That's it.

Re: PGs... you could ask 5 different people and get 5 different answers and each one would have merit.

Way too much emphasis put on scoring if you ask me.

I agree RE: Lebron, but if you ask 50 people on this site I wouldn't be surprised if atleast 25 said Durant.

Rose is pretty darn good Torap, I'm not sure we would be having this conversation if he wasn't dressing in suits for the past month and a half.

I wouldn't either lol... but we all know how much people hate Lebron.

EDIT: Make no mistake... I think that Rose is VERY talented. Possibly the deadliest player in the league off the dribble.... but I'm not sure that I'd clearly put him over similarly-skilled guys like Deron, Paul or Parker... and then you have Westbrook who's just as athletic but not as smart... and Rondo who smarter but not as good a scorer. And he might be the weakest defender of that bunch. It's a tough choice IMO.

After watching last game with Lebron/Durant, Durant would need a lot of help from his teammates hitting him off of screens in stride to score against LBJ. LBJ is to physical defensively for him. Only baskets he scored one on one were tough 9-10 foot floaters.

Yep. We see the same things.

As great as OKC has been this is why I've said before that I think they'll struggle in the playoffs. Teams are going to gear up and prepare for all of those iso plays that they run and if Westbrook and Durant aren't hot as hell from the field they're going to lose. And when you also consider that teams tend to take away fastbreak points in the playoffs and play more halfcourt sets... not a good thing for them. They're fortunate that their D is so good.

I think last season Rose was easily MVP and the best pg. After this season it's hard to say he's the clear-cut best pg. Had he been able to keep up the production then it wouldn't be that hard for me.

Blaze 04-06-2012 04:18 PM

Judging by the comments that say 13 months ago, I don't think this was written this year :P. That being said I don't think many people have Rose or anyone but Lebron or Durant as MVP this year.

TORaptor4Ever 04-06-2012 04:22 PM

D12 will probably get some votes.

Love too if Minny makes the playoffs (maybe).

With all the shit that dwight has been saying/ doing this year, I doubt he gets more than Love. Kobe will probably get some votes too though.

Rose has missed half the season. To get MVP, you should at least play in 90% of games.

But is the best player one-on-one the MVP?

Im not saying Durant is better than LBJ, but last time I checked basketball was 5 on 5 game and to me the most valuable player is not the best one-on-one player.

If Durant is more capable in utilizing the screens from his team mates and in other ways can impact the game more with help of his team mates (thus making his team better), he just might be the MVP over the best individual one-on-one player.

Similarly the best defensive player is not always the best one-on-one defender, but can also be a guy who can hold his own against his guy and also help the other guys who are out-mathced.

LX 04-06-2012 09:44 PM

Lebron is way more than a one-on-one guy. That's what makes the difference. He is probably the best all-around defender, taking into account that he can defend anyone from a 1 to a 5. He sets other guys up very well, and grabs boards at a high rate. But I have to say it's close enough that watching them both on the court at the same time is just a joy.

ClutchCity 04-06-2012 10:05 PM

LOL @ LeBron being called a one-on-one guy. I swear that's the last thing he is...

LX 04-06-2012 10:11 PM

Rudy wasn't calling him that as much as referring to the argument that he beat Durant one-on-one.

Ahh, my fault. Probably should have read the arguments before hand instead of looking like a douche :cookie:

Anyways, as much as I hate LeBron, he's clearly the best player in the game. So by default, he is the best SF in the game.

bjjs 04-06-2012 10:22 PM

The best one on one player isn't the MVP, but when popular opinion is that the MVP race boils down to two guys, and the one completely takes the other out of the game when it matters, it says alot. Also, there is nothing you can do to help your team more than lockdown the other teams best offensive player with limited help from your teammates.
