Default Who's the most overrated NBA player?

I ask this question, because I'm reading all the hype around Blake Griffin and I'm starting to think the guy is one of the more overrated guys right now. Good player, but I think it's becoming a little too much.

Anyways, who are yours?

i like griffin, his post game is solid fundamentally and he pretty much does whatever a power forward is supposed to do on both ends of the floor, except quite weak on shotblocking. javale mcgee is a dude i would consider overrated, just because he relies entirely on his length and leaping ability

Joe Johnson. I can't get over the fact they gave him a max deal, he is nothing of that caliber.

How is he overrated when everyone and their grandmother knows he's overpayed.

Overpayed yes, overrated not so much. Nobody thinks he's worth that deal, even Atlanta at this point would admit it if they could.

Griffin is what he is. Don't really see how he's truly overrated when he's making a rookie salary and putting up 20 + 10. No one's saying he's an MVP (at least I hope they're not).

My vote goes to 'Melo.

I still hear many say Lebron is the best player in the league. Who believes that right now?

Uh... me? lol....

Who, pray tell is better than a guy who's 1st team all-NBA, 1st team all-defense, an MVP AND currently avging 29/8/7 + 1.8 stls and shooting 55% from the floor?

His stats are great i'll give him that. But seriously, he's a late game choker. If you have a game 7 in the NBA finals who do you want, Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Durant, Rose, Paul, Williams?

Do you really think that those other guys haven't ever failed in late game situations? Come on....

I take Lebron 10 times out of 10 because with what he brings to the floor there's a decent chance that the game won't even be close enough to worry about a final shot with him in the game.

If being the best player was all about making game-winning shots Robert Horry would be the best player of the past 20 years.

I guess I'll go with Blake Griffin. I drank the Griffin kool-aid at the beginning of the season, and thought he would have a monster year, but it's been an average Griffin year.

Not a lot of hype around Derrick Williams, but I thought he was going to be a monster, but he's been pretty underwhelming so far.

22 years old.

Averages more than 20 and 10 with 3 assists per

Can't do much more than that when you have other weapons on your team, like Paul, Butler, Williams, Billups. Other dudes need their shats!

This is what I love about these threads. You have a GM who rates a player you would think his opinion should matter more than anyone. Then after just because everyone can see he made a mistake (in hindsight might I add) doesn't make him overrated.

So I'm to think that newspaper writers and the general fan should know more than GM? In hindsight might I add.

Reason why i find the overrated and underrated term a farce.

Example Jeff Hornachek is one of the most underrated players in the NBA ever. Why?

Because he can't dunk?
Because he was white and short?

Like really gimmie a break. So when he made the Finals in 93 was he still underrated?

I call Bullshit and say Joe Johnson is overrated

This is how some people feel about Kevin Love, who I've always liked (can provide RF quotes).

But the debate is understandable. See, in my opinion, when dudes put up monster stats, there will always be some people who rush to compare them to REALLY great players. In the case of Love, some were talking about his 25/15 games and conjuring up images of old Shaq and Duncan. That's going too far. In reaction to that, people say "he's overrated". In the case of Griffin, some people have compared what he's doing, both on the stat sheet and the highlight real, with guys like Kemp and Malone, who have made the finals. And, in Malone's case, even won an MVP award.

Depending on who you talk to, Griffin and Love can easily be underrated or overrated. They are both really awesome, and do things that people can underappreciate or exagerate. Love's outside shooting is amazing. It spreads the floor and creates space for his teamates...etc...yet some people think he just scores hollow points and rebounds. He impacts the game in other ways. Some people think Griffin just dunks and rebounds, while completely overlooking his above average passing ability.

Neither are MVP candidates. Neither are particularly strong defenders. But, when you consider how young they are and what they're doing in their early 20s.....holy fucking shit. Maybe not Tim Duncan, Karl Malone or young Shaq type of holy shit....but, still....holy shit.

Now I'm just ranting.
